These are certainly going to be very useful in the long run! I need to pick up a few rifles myself, but I don't think it would be a good idea for me to try and build one. I'll definitely need help for that. lol

Find somebody local that can help you. The AR is not that hard to assemble, it just has to go together in a specific way. The first one I put together, I spent half my time taking apart what I just done to put in the piece that has to go in first.
But with knowledgeable help you can put it together in less than an hour after you get the 80% receiver cut out properly. I saw a blemished full kit at Palmetto State Armory for less than $400 tonight. If a little scratch doesn't bother you that might be a good option for you. CBC Industries has good quality at decent prices too.
The one thing they are platform has, is the ability to change uppers; and make a new rifle. I'm intrigued by the 300 Blackout, and it might be nice to have a 9 mm carbine. But the sky's the limit, since there are maybe a dozen options for varying calibers.
