They say nothing in life is free although I tend to think some things are. I get it though, in today's world everything comes with a cost, not always financial, but a cost nonetheless and rarely does one come across something that is truly free...I guess one's thoughts and attitudes are one such thing though right?
I like free things...although my general attitude is to apply effort and exchange that for the things I get or have whether that's working for fiat and exchanging it for goods and services, working to improve myself, or to make something happen in my life which I value...one such thing is being in the outdoors, remote and wilderness places...it's where I find freedom. You can see some of those places in the collage above, all places I've been to and camped at.
Much of my wilderness area experiences involve kayaking, hunting, hiking, survival training and practice and, of course, camping and most have been done in National Parks, on Crown land and private properties and some I've had to pay for. There's costs involved with maintaining conservation and National Parks and private properties have expenses too, but one of the really great things about Australia is that there are many places, thousands and thousands of them, where a person can camp for free. What? Free freedom? Yep, that's right!
I've dropped my 4x4 into low range four wheel drive and hit beaches, narrow, rough and muddy tracks, dry rocky creek-beds, driven through scrub with trees scraping the sides of the vehicle, climbed up treacherous winding tracks and into the mountains, on wheel-ruts upon grass covered foothills, through rivers and creeks and so much more...just to get to that free spot...free from financial cost, and those places I find freedom.
Freedom of thought and attitude is one of the great true freedoms in my opinion and it can be done anywhere, a person needs only to look inside oneself and it's there; but there's something unique and special doing so in the places I take myself, those above in the images, and whether it's free from financial cost to be there or not, the value I find there is immense.
What are your thoughts on being in the wilderness, finding natural places far from other people, and do they help you to find a different kind of freedom within yourself? Do you feel more connected with yourself and the planet when there like I do...Do you feel in your element, like I do? Feel free to comment below, maybe a picture also, of one of the natural places you most love to go?
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind
Every image in this post is mine.
The wild is where I feel most at home. It's where I know I belong. I could survive living in most places, but it is the wilderness that calls to me.
I totally agree though, that true freedom is all to do with the mind.
You have been to some stunning places. I really loved camping out in Western Australia, everywhere I went was so beautiful xxxxx
I love that line, "the wilderness calls to me," and I feel the same. Add the wilderness to that mind-freedom we both love and life looks pretty damned good.
WA is legit, I know you spent some time over there and I'm sure you found some crackin' places.
Nature is free, the only thing that it is needed from us is to take of it. Some stunning sceneries !!!
Indeed it is...which makes me wonder why so many avoid it...maybe cities and staying inside playing video games is more important to them?
Yeap. That’s why I decided to share lately more and more posts about waking outdoor activities and sceneries
Greetings, you mentioned sharing an image in nature. Being able to be surrounded by it is something comforting, I feel like I am a child again because my capacity for wonder doesn't change when I can admire it.
Mountains always make me feel happy when I'm there. This looks like a really nice spot!
Yes, that is in the hills of Cubiro, in the state of Lara, Venezuela. I have the joy of being surrounded by mountains in the state of Aragua 😍.
I bet the air is sweet and fresh.
That's right, it is something indescribable that fills you with peace.
This is so lovely, i love going into places like this. I remember when we went to a farm deep inside and beyond a very remote village. The beauty is the silence, the unimaginable vast space, the fragrance smell of plants and trees in the sweet cool air. It was awesome.
There's a lot to like in places like this so I find them as often as I can and stay as long as possible. Life happens though, and I have to work, so it just doesn't happen as often as I would like.
That quote feels so accurate especially right now.
Hiking and beach is pretty much the extent of what I'll do, I can also tolerate a chalet or something out in the middle of nowhere. I tried very hard to love camping but I hate it XD
I may also just connect weirdly.
I think you do get the best shots when you go the most out of the way though, your entire collage is amazing.
I agree, it's sad but true. Still, people have th ability to change right? Most don't.
Not everyone loves camping, but one doesn't have to camp to be out there in nature. Sure, the best places probably require it, and a four wheel drive, but there's still good options.
Thanks for the compliment, Australia is an easy place to photograph huh?
It really is.
As You know, I have spent 60-70% of the last 30 years away from my Fave Spot.
So strange and unusual as my answer may seem. I know you understand it.
My Hammock under the Southern Live Oak tree hanging next to the campfire beside our pond.
Yep, I'd be pretty happy with that too. The important thing is the feeling and if that's where you get it, that's good enough.
There's always a new journey to an active person.
I wish I could do that. I think if I'm financially stable, I would be out there enjoying and exploring our vast land. There are lots of beautiful places I want to visit here in the Philippines someday.
And with that, I can't do that right now since the people around me might think its ridiculous. Like, why would I go on a trip and waste money when we are not financially stable. Some people in the family are very tight about money so it's not ideal to spend like that. If they're mindset is not like that, probably I would be traveling alone once in a while.
You don't need to be financially stable to take a walk in the park, or to some area where there's grass and trees. Is there not somewhere close by?
I agree that wasting money on things that are not requirements, if a person is in a poor financial state, isn't wise...but life must be lived and some moments of enjoyment and happiness should be something everyone feels able to find in some way.
You are correct about going somewhere for a change doesn't always require financial stability. I was referring about traveling to places where you would need a certain amount to be able to go touring around the vicinity.
Right now, I'm in a situation where I need to be careful and considerate of my decisions. And having to travel alone to unwind was one of those wants that I have to put on hold for now. I know how much traveling can energize a free spirited soul, but that has to wait.
I understand, my mistake.
I'm perpetually in that situation, I find it's the best way to be as considering one's decisions/options often means I make better choices.
Travelling the world, and Australia, has been one of the most important parts of my life. I hope you get to do it.
It's okay, and I understood what you meant. I do hope that one day I could travel alone without a care in the world.
...just out there and busy exploring.
I hope this happens for you.
Personally, I love it, too. Zen and Peace are what come to mind. Sadly, my lifestyle does not allow me to get out there as much as I'd like but, positively, when I do manage it, it's all the more special.
Sometimes it's the inability to do it, the infrequently, that makes the experience more enjoyable.
Yes, exactly!
A few years ago I once went on a hunt with my friend deep into the jungle hinterland, climbing mountains and camping for a few days in the forest was really very pleasant, I found many things that are still very natural and also beautiful, although the trip was tiring, the result was well worth it, unfortunately the moment has been a long time and I did not capture it, Seeing your post I missed it again and wanted to repeat it again
There's a lot of be found in wilderness places, peace, quiet and the ability to connect with the planet and oneself better.
thoughts become things ;).
That's a good phrase, and very true. ✅
Well coming from the scout experience I have always lived in contact with nature and I have been lucky enough to sleep a thousand times in a tent, but also around the fire under the stars and sonk have always been fantastic moments.
Especially those moments of silence and solitude, You, nature and that's it... a connection with the universe is created.
They are moments in which we recharge and they are also moments of awareness.
When I'm alone, immersed in nature, especially at night, I feel really free and totally at ease, serene, in my environment.
It's something only those who have been there will understand and value. A lot of people like the idea of the outdoors and wilderness, some even think they found the feelings tlyo mention at a park in the middle of the city...they don't though, not really, one must go further to become closer to the planet end themselves.
I can't say I feel in my element much of anywhere. I don't know what my element is. But I need to make more time to explore. Maybe I'll find it one day.
Life is my element, and everything it encompasses, all the elements combined.
Oh yes, there's still a lot more free. We are breathing the air for free where we can't almost buy air in the hospital for a year. We can still drink a free water in the springs (though this is seldom now). We can free to make other people happy by sharing even the simplest blessings we received.
Oh the freedom that we felt with the nature is priceless. I miss those moments.
If you miss those moments are you able to find some?
Yes, in some place that have at least a little touch of nature like in the surroundings with lots of trees or you can see a lot of greens.
Loving the bright colors in some of your photographs! The serenity of nature brings joy. 😊

Australia is a land of contrast and is incredibly varied and diverse; it's easy to find beautiful locations. Of course, not every single aspect of the country is vibrant and richly painted in colour, just most of it. I'm lucky to have seen a lot of it, and my pictures reflect that.
I thought I would freeze, but honestly camping in the snow was one of the most peaceful experiences ever.
One of the things I love best is getting out on the water with a kayak. I can aimlessly paddle and solve the problems of the world in one afternoon. I have no idea why, but, the rhythmic pattern of paddling brings my heart rate down, down, down.
I've not camped in the snow, but have in very cold conditions and I don't mind it, a good excuse to get more snuggly...as if I need an excuse.
I kayak too, the mix of strenuous paddling and floating is nice, and the floating part brings a great opportunity to relax, think...or not think. Pretty legit in my opinion. Thanks for the images.
Denise, I need a hug...I went back to work today...am there now. Need hugs. 😥
The snow is warmer than the very cold. It won't snow if it is too cold. It even chases that away. Pretty sure no excuses are needed, just saying.
I never turn down kayaking.
Oh, sweet Jesus! You went back to work! What did you do a thing like that for? I think you need lots of hugs! After all that fun? How dare you ruin life! I bet they were waiting for you in the parking lot.
Throws you a hug!
Clearly I'm a snow-novice...when it comes to snow I snow nothing. Lol. Well actually, I know not to eat yellow snow, so that's something though right?
Catches hug...greedily, wants another one.
Haha! Now I have coffee on my keyboard. snow nothing
Another? It must be an overwhelmingly busy day for you! Well, not anymore, your day is done!
...it was done. But now it's Tuesday morning and...damnt it, another work day.
Sweet Jesus, man!! You work too much!
Beautiful photos!
Thanks, I appreciate you saying so.
I also felt freedom every time I'm with nature.
Yep, you seem the type to appreciate it.
