Live action: Cold and wet

in Outdoors and more2 years ago

Sometimes I question my decisions, like last night's to come deer hunting this morning...nature doesn't always comply with the wishes of human beings and mother nature has a mind of her own. I'm writing this from the top of a hill whilst sheltering from the rain and scoping for targets, today it's deer. So, I questioned my decisiont o come here and...decided it was a good one!

I'm cold and wet - including my boots, socks and feet - and it's bloody awesome!

Note, rain drops in the image above captured by the camera.

I used to do live action posts a lot when I was somewhere interesting but not for a while. Today's live action post comes to you whilst I'm out on a hunting expedition to bag a deer and grab some food.

It was an early morning, a 05:00 wake up, then a drive to the location in time to see the sun come up, the image below shows what that looked like. Everything is wet from recent rainfall and the ground is squelchy underfoot thanks to the rising water-table and underground springs. It's all good though, I'm in nature and that's what matters.

As I've moved about I have grabbed a few photos here and there in between scoping for targets and enjoying the surroundings. Right now though, I'm beneath some big gum trees on the top of a hill trying to avoid the bulk of the rain and keep my rifle as dry as dry as possible.

It's pretty difficult to keep it dry when I'm carrying it around in the rain though, but don't worry, it's not afraid of the elements.

In the image above, showing today's choice of rifle, you can see it's been rained on, as have I, and whilst it has not dampened my spirits, it means the rifle will need to be dried down and the metal parts oiled to protect it for rust before going into the safe. I'm careful with my rifles and I don't like getting them wet, but being in the outdoors means it happens from time to time. But that's a job for later, right now I'm here to enjoy nature and the solitude and peace I find there.

I'm writing this on my phone so I don't want to write much; I hate making posts on my phone so if there's any typos you'll have to forgive me, or not, I guess. I've added a few shots into this post showing how the conditions have changed and, speaking of which, it looks like the rain is slowing so I better be off. Have a great weekend y'all.

That is one amazing rainbow shot! I hope you came home with a deer, but if not, I can see why you would not consider it wasted time all the same.

The second photo made me think of the song "Morning Has Broken" ....and it started playing in my head.

I don't keep access to my account here on my phone. I did one time for a while, but then found there was no way I would ever want to post from it, peck, peck, peck, one letter at a time... ugh !

There were so many rainbows this morning. It was cool. Here's one.

20230429_074244~2.jpg

It certainly wasn't a waste of time, managed to get what I wanted, but just being out was awesome. Watching sunrises in places like this is amazing.

oh... that is a very nice photo as well. Did you go up that hill to see if the pot of gold was there?

Glad you got what you went for.

Lol, I went up that hill as I was tracking something. The bugger buggered off though. I looked about for a pot of gold, but only found deer shit.

LOL !

That's life ain't it ??.... some find gold, others find a pile of shit.

Yes, that's right. Sad but true.

You just cannot beat a day out with Mother, can you? Boots, socks,s and feet, and you are still a happy camper? I believe it.

Your fondness for nature (and a good deer) was well rewarded! Sunlight striking raindrops at precisely the right angle and voila! A rainbow is born! It is a beauty! While I see many of them out in the open sea or beach, closer to the city, the view gets obstructed many times.

A glorious outing, Galen! Wet and wonderful. I have to say, I don't mind rain, I find it silly, but fun to walk in the rain Puddle jump even.

I really dislike writing posts on my phone! But, you did a great job and I would never have known if you hadn't said anything, I hope you got your deer!

I'll admit that soaking boots and socks doesn't make for a great feeling, but with all the other great things about being out there it takes a back seat and becomes tolerable.

The rainbow was cool, multiple rainbows actually. I added another photo in this comments section in reply to someone else.

It was a good day, enjoyable and successful.

I hope your weekend has been good so far Swigles.

Woah! These photos are incredible! Wet boots and all. What a way to begin the day. Hope you "bagged" your lunch. And even if you didn't, I'm sure the solitude with that stunning view was worth it

It was such a great morning and worth the effort for multiple reasons. Venison will be back on the menu for a good time to come. 😊

Yummy. Do you ever make what we South Africans love - biltong? I just made a batch but then it's one of our free roaming cattle and not venison.....although kudu would be goooooooooooooood

I don't make it myself, but it's available here - so many saffers around here. I get some now and then and enjoy it.

Oh of course! Australia is like our distant relative.

Yeah, we broke away from the supercontinent of Gondwana Land and became Australia a long time ago. I'm not sure why, but when we broke off and moved away we got better at cricket and rugby. Lol.

Four day later and I'm still laughing. And agreeing with you. While I'm not the biggest lover of cricket or rugby, I certainly was a fan when I lived in the UK. Of the Australian teams. Ssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm only in South African camo

How beautiful to smell the wetness of the rain and to be in the middle of nature. These are unique experiences, I love what I read, even if it was done on your mobile.

The second picture and the one of the rifle, I liked it very much. I paid a lot of attention to them.

I like that there is a unique space for nature and outdoor life, I'll keep it in mind!

Beautiful publication and always grateful!✨

Thanks for your nice comment, it certainly was a nice morning spent doing something I love - Being out in nature.

I share that and I admire your photos! Thank you!😃

Magical! Happy Scoping.

Scoped what I wanted and it'll fill the freezer nicely. 😉

The surrounding environment is looking beautiful and cool. Rainbow was a gift for you there and I hope you enjoyed it very well.
Rain drops increased the beauty of last two pictures but I believe both pictures could be more better.( My opinion)

Yeah, there were a few rainbows, I will share some of my otter shots at some other time. It was a great day.

You're really an outdoor person and I could see those little raindrops too. Must be nice, having such an amazing hobby.

Yeah, I like the outdoors and have the skills to make me feel comfortable out there doing stuff like this.

Although the rain drops doesn't appear in picture but rainbow look beautiful. I surprised to see that you woke up so early, i woke up around 5:30 to 6:00 in morning.

I used to write post on mobile because i never used Hive on laptop but soon maybe I'll transfer all it's key's to laptop too

I find it really had to write posts on my phone as typing on such a small screen is annoying. I hope you get a laptop someday.

I already have a laptop but actually now i just started hive a month ago so i took my start from phone

Ah ok, I see, my mistake.

It's okay

An amazing way to start the day in the wee hour to meet mother nature's blessing.

Reading through, I can't help but smile at the love and respect shown to mother nature.

I love the rain too. The sound of its platters and the misty air that surrounds one is just perfect.

It's really cool getting up before the sun, it's a nice time of the day and despite the cold and rain I had a great day.

It is good you did. Have an amazing day.

If it ain't rainin', you ain't trainin'!

I remember hearing that a time or two in my life. One of the wonders of hunting used to be just sitting in nature and taking it in. I don't think most people get that almost all hunters are lovers of nature. Some more appreciative of it than others, like you and me maybe. I was just posting the other day about loving to lay in the woods and listening to the wind blow through the trees and birds sing, bugs buzz, and other noises of nature.

It's sort of refreshing being in the rain, to a certain degree...there's times when it's not so nice too. I had a great morning out, quite productive really.

The rainbow shot is very cool. I wish it will also rain here in our place its been 4 months that the rain didn't visit us. 😪

Hopefully you get some rain soon, four months without is a long time.

Yes, and we are now experiencing water scarsity in our town..😪

Yes, that's an issue when rainfall doesn't occur. Parts of Australia have had no rainfall for eight years and they had to truck water in so people had something to drink. Not the whole country though, just a few locations. The drought was rather brutal.

Sure you wouldn’t rather be playing video games lol?

I'd rather pull out my own teeth with a pair of pliers than play a video game.

That's what I thought.

Yep, I figured.

I feels like your life is an adventure everyday, this is the kind of living to the fullest while enjoying the day. By the way I find the place pretty but that rifle looks prettier to me. I don't know how to use a gun but my hands is aching to caress it 🤩

I like to think my life is an adventure overall.

It's a nice rifle, one I built up and modified for an exact purpose. Those (few) who have shot it tend to like it and there's a good reason why; it's a splendid rifle.

What will happen to your rifle if they get wet? I know you don't like it when it gets wet but will anything happen to it?

It's stainless steel, but is still susceptible to rust which is why I dry it carefully and apply a thin coating of oil to protect it. Guns and moisture don't mix well.

Friend I love all your photos, sometimes we receive the rain with much gratitude because it is what allows us to pause to enjoy the goodness and benefits of mother nature and from the solitude we can listen to her wonderful language.
Best regards!

Thank you, I'm glad you like them, although they're not my best. The light wasn't right. I love being out in nature and this morning was really nice, despite being cold and wet. It smelled earthy and fresh and being cool meant not getting too hot as I wandered about hunting.

Hi!! I enjoyed a lot your pictures and your words… I can see that being in those conditions (with cold and humidity), it was worth it to take those pictures, especially the first one. But all of them keep the magic of the moment.

I don't like to write on my phone either, but sometimes a wave of inspiration leaves no other option.

Great post!!!

It was a nice moment indeed, quite enjoyable, despite the wet boots, socks and feet.

Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you liked the post.

Gorgeous views. Just for that it was worth oit for you to wake up early.

Indeed, it's a nice place to be.

It's been so long since I haven't seen rainbow 🤗 It was trully amazing and so magical. You have a beautiful place 🤗I am glad to know that your living your life with full of adventure. Take care always ♥️

They're cool aren't they, rainbows I mean. Conditions need to be right for them to appear I guess, I was fortunate that they were and glad I managed to get a shot of this one and a few others.

Hello @galenkp I don't post on dtube anymore.I want to do good work again.I came here in 2018.I have never been blacklisted in this long journey.I love this platform.I have many cooperative friends here.I am fascinated by their good works here.I always post fresh, still why downvote. Dear @galenkp forgive me if I have done wrong.I ask you for forgiveness.Give me a chance to do good work here again.Even if people commit crimes there is a chance to appeal. Please give me a chance dear brother🙏.You know that creating a content is very difficult task.God bless you.

You started your account in March 2018 and after all those years have a grand total of 15.960 Hive staked.

I checked your wallet and can see that you exit everything you earn here and, of course, your post feed is full of posts that all look the same, you picking up garbage in your area. Whilst I appreciate that your area is littered with a lot of garbage and that you should be picking it up (or not throwing it there in the first place) I don't believe a daily post of such content (as you were doing) is warranted.

Clearly you're doing it simply for the rewards, putting no effort and creativity into your posts and taking everything out of the blockchain. You're not supporting others either...look at your last seven days of voting...Six votes, two of them to yourself. You're not reading other people's posts or engaging with them, you're taking. Just taking and taking, without giving anything at all back.

Hive is not your personal bank and you are owed nothing here.

You are free to do what you like though, that's the beautiful thing about the blockchain. Everyone can do as they like and that means add or take away rewards from posts as they choose.

Your low effort posts don't make me want to upvote them, that's my right to decide. Your farming over years makes me want to remove rewards which is also my right to decide.

Give me a chance to do good work here again

I am not stopping you from posting good work. You can begin doing so anytime you like, you don't need post rewards to do good work...the good work has to come first.

You have not done wrong to me, I am simply exercising my right to adjust your rewards. I am not your brother, you have done nothing to earn that respected title and I'll thank you to never call me that again; that comment annoyed me.

I have watched your account and never have I seen you ask anyone why they have upvoted you. I wonder why, considering you seem to think it's ok to demand an explanation when people downvote you.

I have begun a tally on a notepad. Every time you mention or comment to me about downvotes I will add ten more downvotes to your tally. Got it? You are wasting your time asking me about it but feel free to continue. Your tally is at zero currently, let's see how high it goes.
