Making Sparks with Rocks - Primitive Fire Starting Skills for Survival

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Learn primitive fire starting techniques with me!

Starting a fire from sparks using rocks is one of the most valuable primitive fire starting methods. In this video, I teach you how to identify spark creating rocks that are commonly found in nature.

I explain how rocks like flint, chert, and quartz have properties that allow them to produce sparks when struck against hardened steel. I show examples of rocks that work well and how to prepare them.

I also show you a trick to figure out if your rock is the proper hardness for this technique.

Learning to harness the natural fire starting properties of rocks gives you a reliable way to start fires without matches or tools. With sparks from stones, you can stay warm and survive in the wilderness using this ancient bushcraft skill.

Hey Regina,
The last time I achieved sparks was when I was about 10 years old. I was always fascinated by the idea, but my rock collection was always of whatever rocks I could find.

A luck of the draw

I agree, somedays I got lucky (to see sparks but NEVER to start a fire, thank goodness)... and other days I'd toss all my rocks and just ride home on my bike defeated (or without a spark).😆

Nice to see you back:)))

Hi Milly!

Oh, that is awesome you discovered spark making rocks as a kid! Very cool. You are a survivalist at heart!

I am focusing on a new survival series which I am very excited about. I want to be more involved in the HIVE community in general, I hope to get there one day.

Hi Regina!
I hope you're having a great weekend.
I'm happy I saw your video because I enjoyed it very much. It was so informative 🙌
You seem happy, which is lovely to see, and yeah, I hope that you'll find a way to be more active, but no pressure at all 🤗

This is a pretty cool little instructional video, thanks for using my community. I will look out for the next one because, well, who doesn't love fire right?

I hope you got a Band-aid on that finger. 😊

Hi there! I just discovered your community and it fits my content perfectly. I am starting a new survival series, and I will be glad to share it here! And yes, I did get my finger patched up. 😁

I liked how you added some words to the post, a requirement for people leaving videos in my communities, as I could decide whether to actually look at the video. Which I often don't. I don't like people dropping a video with there words that say, here's my video and leaving. Those get muted.

So, I appreciated your effort, including almost losing your arm in a rock-bresking incident to get this post together.

Have a nice weekend up there.
