Thanks a lot for the summary of the Canadian gun law.
I`ll try to describe our gun law (Czech Republic) in short. I think our law is one of the best in Europe, despite the EU, trying to drag the rights of firearms holders and steal the guns and laws from citizens.
So in short, we have groups of firearms:
A - prohibited (eg. automatic etc.) - if you want to own, you have to get the exception from the police department (now nearly impossible)
B - semi-auto guns and rifles - under the gun license and claim the permit
C - mainly repeating rifle (> 280mm) - under the gun license and registration
D - historical, airsoft, paintball etc. - free from age of 18 w/o registration
And the gun licenses:
A - collecting (age 21+)
B - sport (age 18+)
C - hunting (age 18+)
D - profession (age 21+)
E - personal protection (age 21+ / concealed carry permit)
So if you want to bye the firearm from groups A,B or C, you have to own the license first.
To ge the gun license you have to:
- meet the age
- impunity and irreproachability
- meet theoretical and practical examination
- health qualification
The fulfillment of the conditions above = claim the license.
So I got the gun license included group E, which is for life or property protection.
If I want to buy the new toy, I will go to my police department and ask for permit to do it. If I put the "protection" reason, they must to give permit to me by the law. Then I will have 1 year to buy the gun. After the gun is bought, the registration is needed in 10 days.
Very interesting to see the different firearm laws around the world! It's nice how you guys can have a concealed carry permit there under the License E
