In my quest for preparedness for what is now seemingly upon us... I was being practical and wanted a modular, easy to buy and maintain system of firearms.
I wanted just 22lr, 9mm, 223/556 and 12g... But I wasn't my fault!! I had my first AR being built, this build started about a month before Sandy Hook shooting. We're talking late 2012 , around Halloween time... when the school shooting occurred, everything got scarce, rather quickly. So I got what I could find. No regrets, and in fact I'm glad it worked the way it did. 😻
I currently have or had these calibers/variants:
17 hmr_
22s
22l
22lr
22mag
223/556
270w_
30-30
762x25
762x39
762x51*
9mm
38spc
357mag
40s&w_
10mm
44mag
45acp
45super
460rowland
20g
12g
762x51* the asterisk means I have ammo without a gun for it... how long can this last? It will likely be for barter. But an AR10 would be sweeet...
17hmr_ the underscore means I sold it, gun(s) and ammo all. 40s&w_ is gone too. No need for that, I have 10mm and some of this is just 40 Long but not much of mine!!
The 270w_ well, I got a great deal on a Savage 110 chambered in 270w, and had close to 500 rounds but it's also sold. Something else was calling and it went to a dedicated hunter using it out West 🤠
Notice the lack of 380acp. Never felt the need, but may want one for a deep concealed carry if a micro 9 does not quite fill the bill. No rush!
All these were obtained at good prices, and during a gun scare and ammo shortage, well, let's just say I was very blessed most of the time. 40s&w was very abundant during the Sandy Hook scare. I was well prepared with 40 when 9mm was as rare as hen's teeth. People around here are very traditional but it's slowly changing. It's taking the majority a lot longer time to catch up to me. I was stacking 22mag and 17hmr when people were getting into fights over 22lr 🤣 I still have mucho 22lr but I was patient and got almost all of it at the right price. ✅
Rolling with the punches is why I have had 20+ calibers and shotties, instead of the 4 or 5 in my original plan. But I have not been without abundant protection since I started...
I have had people who know me say "WOW, are you planning on starting a WAR?" and my answer has always been: "NO, but I plan on FINISHING IT!!!"
Survival. End of story!
Edits: added in 30-30 and DUH, 223/556
I'm sure I have likely missed something, but it's not a huge deal. Probably not a whole other caliber but I did leave out 44mag in the first draft 🤣 I'd love a Dirty Harry gun, S&W model 29 💪
Yes definitely need this. You'll be glad you did. Would be an excellent addition. I just gave mine to my son a few months back. It was one of my favorites.
Nice, I actually like the classic old furniture on it!
I'm hoping it's correct for that model, it's an Egyptian pre-ban and everything else seems to be 100% correct. I overpaid but not too bad if it's all original, then maybe I stole it 🤣
That poor AK needs proper furniture, not something that looks like it's left over from the Clinton gun ban nonsense era!
Hi Jacob!! ACTUALLY I THOUGHT maybe it was not original but there are some examples that look just like it. I have verified that it is indeed a PRE-BAN AK, the flash hider is not welded, it has the bayonet lug, it is fully intact across the board. I bought it from a guy that was a classic " yada-yada everything is 100%" but he really was just spouting a bunch of phrases but he HAD BEEN TOLD the truth. He inherited the gun. So I bought it!
I'm still not sure the stock is correct, but the rest is 👍👍👍
I also got a dozen of the "rare" Chinese AK mags that go for $50 each on gunbroker
I need to sell these
That thumbhole stock must be a ban era compliance effort remnant, then. A proper stock and pistol grip shouldn't be hard to come by.
Shouldn't be hard to come by hopefully!
Ah, a connoisseur. @ksteem has made some posts about his Kimber converted to 460 Roland. I hope to shoot one one day.
Thanks for that reference, I do love my .460 Rowland. So much I converted a second .45 into one as well. The Dirty Harry .44 Magnum model 29 used to be my go to power handgun, but the Rowland gave me the same power and more capacity and fast reloading without the brutal recoil.
👍👍👍
Mine is a converted G21 3rd gen, shoots like a strong 10mm
Great minds... Mine's the same. Am hoping they will release the V2 Damper for the Glocks soon. It is amazingly effective on my Kimber, and reduces the felt recoil and muzzle flip even more well worth the cost.
More Deets, man!!
I have LWD hardware, I bought mine used (60% discount!) It was on consignment at my LGS and I got $1500 retail value for $600 plus tax
I added a Taylor Freelance "Seattle Slug Plug" in the grip void, it adds 3.5 oz where it helps the most! The 6" Slide and 6.6" barrel also dampen the recoil quite a bit. I was quite pleased!
Sounds sweet, we need some pics of it at rest and in action in a future post!
Finishing it is a good plan! You Have to have a 380, get a keltec, they are frighteningly accurate for a mouse gun.
No Martini Henry? LOL! 😂 Calibres can sneak up on you, I'm afraid to make this list. But I do enjoy as trip to the range to turn money into noise!
The web on the 7.62 x 51 is badly designed, being too flat. As a result they have more recoil than they need to have. I may restock one with a more normal web angle, and see if it behaves better.
🤠💙🦌😁
Web angle? Is that the same ad shoulder angle?
If that is what you mean then look into an AI chamber, or
ACKLEY IMPROVES. It's a much better efficiency for the amount of powder needed! Plus you can get more powder in there too
Yes the flatter the stock, the more recoil is transferred to the shoulder. The sharper the angle, the more rise on the barrel; it's a trade off.
I will look at that chamber modification, sounds fun. But the Mossin Negant is pretty crude, and may not be worth that much work. Restocking is easy, and would greatly improve it's looks and function!
I do like modifying these toys....
🤠💗😆
