Remembering the first firearm I purchased there was no doubt I thought it should be the Glock 19 9mm. For guns every individual ha their own preferences and tastes. No one type is better than the other.
The design of firearms fundamentally has not changed since 1911... that is literally 111 years already. For that amount of time perfecting every gram the gun has to offer has been implemented. Trust me not all guns are good designs but by shooting as many as I can before buying the Glock was a good first choice.
As I lived in other places around the world guns to many especially in Asia is a mere fantasy people can only imagine and the only time they get to use one will be in video games. So being in the US personally its a must to experience and deep dive into guns and ammo. At the time little did I know... once you go in... you dont come out.
The funny thing is that I can part with most of my personal belongings and sell them on ebay or give them away. However, when it comes to my guns... I just can't let go. Its such a personal experience at a level where this object needs to be respected and taken care of. Cause at the end of the day a gun is designed for one main purpose... to take down a threat.
So when handling it should never be taken lightly. The repeated process of practicing safety and learning how to use it properly as time goes by it builds a personal relationship to it... therefore a bond is made both physically and mentally.
Maybe this is why? I am not sure but one thing was for sure... I locked up all my guns and placed them safe at my parents home and gave momma the keys. I told momma..."whatever you do, dont give the keys to dad." hehehe...
I get asked a lot from my friends in Asia about guns and they ask me questions about the Glock and maybe some in our Hive community who likes guns but has no access would probably ask the same... as the following below.
"Why is the Glock so popular?"
This is the most asked of all and in the beginning I was also asking the same question. This is what I can say through my experience with owning the handgun, practice shooting with instructors, and analyzing the design as a product designer.
No.1 - Some might dont know but there is a LOT of different type of Glocks. Some of my friends thought of it as just one model but there are 50+ models of variety. Mainly divided by overall size of the handgun and caliber size of the bullet. From there it gets divided even further by functions and cosmetic styles. This ensures there is probably a Glock model made specifically for your needs. You can adjust size depending on your hand size and also adjust caliber size to fit your preferences. Basically in the 50+ model variants there is one made for you. :) My first reason why Glocks are popular.
No.2 - The Glock is mostly made with Plastic! This really gives it an advantage because it makes the handgun so much lighter to hold on your hand. and trust me.... weight is everything when it comes to response times. The all metal handguns like the legendary 1911's are rock solid but try holding it for several hours in practice or when you are carrying it around your body. You will feel the wrath of what it means by "Heavy". 1Kg feels like 10Kg when your tired. The properties of plastics is taken full advantage of and the results are that not only its light but also very durable as well.
No.3 - Last but not least, IT JUST WORKS... This part is hard to explain for my video game shooters but guns jam... and they jam easily. Its why we consistently clean and maintenance our guns... because it would be pretty shitty if your gun jams at the most important time you need it the most. That would just truly suck... its worse than anything a gun has to offer! The Glock is known for its "Reliability" no matter what ammo its being used or whatever situation you might be in... wet, sandy, hot, cold... its been tried-and-true with the same results. IT JUST WORKS. I think this is the part where I value the most. The reason for this is because Glock has engineered it to be as simplistic as possible. Both in function and also in parts. When things become simple there is another element that become enhanced.... which is Reliability.

New materials such as polymer plastics are slimming down the weight of many firearms and more exotic materials & coatings such as carbon fiber, reinforced glass, liquid metal are being introduced to challenge to higher levels of accuracy, handling, and reliability.
Another thing I love about the Glock is that it has so much options for accessories and modifications. Due to its popularity there are so many after-market parts to choose from. I really just want it to be reliable and raise the chances of my gun not jamming when its absolutely needed to fire. If that is the case then usually factory parts is what I look for.... and Magazines. Lots and lots of magazines. :)

I've only used real weapons a couple of times in my life and those were only for testing purposes. I hope I don't have to use it in real life, but if I do, I need to know what it will be like. This is something that every person should know because you never know when and where the danger will come from. That's a good post man. Set Da Tone!!

The best thing when danger comes at you is to Run. Run da fuk out of the danger zone till your safe. Its always best to avoid it than to confront it if possible.
and my instructor said if you are going to the point where you need to pull out a weapon, a whole lot of responsibility will be consequenced. So unless its a real threat you dont pull out da guns just because you feel like it. Good fact to know homie~ and even if it a knife the same rules are applied.
In that case.... I will just RUN.
My friend, sometimes it is possible to escape and sometimes it is not. Imagine a thief breaks into your house at night. Or someone corners you. Where would you run? You have to defend yourself. Just showing your gun might be enough to make him run away. Otherwise, I've never been in favor of using it either.

I think everyone who likes guns should give Glock a chance. It really is a overall good gun... I am not sure if its the very best but I do think its a great gun at a good price tag. Rifles are so much fun and the range of accuracy is so good.
So good in fact that it makes me laugh when I see movies where a character is running away from gun fire. That is the movies in real life you just "aim and shoot" and 90% of the time it will hit the target. :)
Im convinced by your argument about the weight. I've been running through the forest paint guns and laser quest etc.. The Glock sounds a good choice.
I love paint ball!! Adrenaline rush to the max during a shoot out. and yea I know what you mean... No one understands about the weight until you realize your slow as heck because you tricked out your paintball gun to the max and its becoming heavy as hell while you run. hehehehe.

Not judging or trying to start a debate of any sort, what's you reason for getting va gun in the first place?
For some people, it is therapeutic to go shoot at a range.
I really like the design aspect of them. I am not a military marine junkie and probably will not even pass thier physical qualification exam. But I got it cause I wanted to just own one and touch it everyday. :) and yes just like what @derangedvisions said there is a warm connection when you use it at the range a lot. Its pretty much it. Do I want to train myself to be like John Wick? Hellz No!!~
But at least learn from instructors about full on safety and proper handling. So my entire family got a basic gun training certificate. Getting familiar with it is the best safety. :)
Awesome! I like guns but never know a lot in detail so this is really a good source of information. For me, as long as it fires, then it's a gun I can use 😅
Sadly in Asia we can't own one, or at least in my home country, you can own one as long as you have the papers for it.
Anyways, your gun is cool! It seems like you can disassemble and assemble it too by yourself. Really cool!

In Asia I know the closest you can get to buying them for a hobby is to go with top of the line Air Soft Replica guns. I seem some and they are down to 1:1 scale and weight. Some even recoils with gas pump action. I was pretty impressed!
And I have been in your shoes too... we like guns but in Asia its just not allowed period.

I don't know about the guns in AirSoft because I have never tried it yet (booo!) but it would be awesome to do that too!

The access people have to guns in other countries is quite different from what we have here in my country so I have almost zero ideas about guns but I have learned a few theoretical things about guns here.
It for sure was @GalenKP who inspired me to join the gun post show in his community. I like reading his posts on firearms and he knows his guns for sure to the very tee. To be at his knowledge base you really have to go military pro level which if you read some of his post you can tell he has served in the armed forces before.
The level of detail he writes up on his rilfes especially on the ammo is not in the level a normal person can read and fully understand. hehehehe. and yea he is legit. :)

Many countries want only the government to have firearms...Of course, regulating law-abiding citizens doesn't stop the criminals from having firearms. So...yeah, government (often corrupt) and criminals with guns...Doesn't seem very legit to me.
I loved my Glocks that I have owned. They make some great reliable pistols.
Reliability at its finest. The damn thing just wont give up!! During training near the staircase one of the students startled and droped his Glock which fell like 3-4 stories high cause it fell right in the middle section of stairway where its just empty open space. The damn thing still worked just fine!!
It's a solid operator for sure and you make the point of there being many accessory options which is good also. For the money, it's a great option and sure, there are far more expensive options but if the tool does the job then why spend more?

I think it can help brew an interesting subject matter to our community cause there really is a lot more about guns than just "killing". At the same time guns and knives get along like bread and butter. So lots of great topics you initiated is already inspiring more gun/knife lovers here.
I always were hesitant to post my firearms due to taboo. However knowing that your a professional shooter and also the owner/moderator of outdoor community, I believe it can bring some fun to the table with right guidance.

Flocks are ok. But the CZ P-07 is a better guy for less money. It is also the most reliable handgun in its class.
ahhh the CZ-P07's the infamous supposed to be the Glock replacer. Bang for buck yes its cheaper than the Glock. However if I am correct I heard the P07's got discontinued on 2019? It got replaced by something else.
At the end of the day if it makes you and I happy that is what really matters. I shot a P-10c with the Glock at the time of purchase because the shop told me those two are the most similar. Shoot one before you buy~ :) Still got the Glock.
The P-07 is not discontinued, my buddy just bought one brand new direct from CZ for competitions. It’s the number 1 gun used by competition shooters

A good post on a decent shooter mate. Like I said on another comment (as my alter ego), there's not much point in spending more than one has to on a firearm if there's an option that does the job. getting shot by your G19 or my CZ P-09 or SIG Sauer P226 is shot either way and whilst there's pros and cons to each, for the civilian operator I think it doesn't much matter which.
Just on this...Here in Australia I am unable to divulge the codes to my safes even to someone with the right licensing, as the guns are registered to me. It's bonkers. So, let's say my partner has the same licensing as I do, and the same exact firearms...We would be unable to store them in the same safe as I would have access to her guns, and she mine. It's bloody stupid right? It raises issues in respect of my dying and what has to occur afterwards to deal with my firearms. I've left instructions in my will, names and phone numbers of those who can deal with them, but it's a complex thing and I shouldn't have to right?
Ummmm... wow thats pretty stupid yes. So your firearm cannot be shared in the same safe due to the fact that you have access to the other persons gun??? Even though both parties are licensed for the exact firearm???
If that is the case the government should do the same to automobiles because cars are far more deadly than guns. You could probably petition that nonsense by applying it to cars since car accident fatalities are much higher globally than gun violence. Yea every country has thier own version of stupid laws. :)

I can loan my guns with nothing more than a signed and dated piece of paper saying where they are (the page is kept by both parties) although that person has to have the right safe category and the right license of course. Not that I loan my guns of course. But...I can't leave the code somewhere for my next of kin to find when I die...It means someone has access to the guns who may not have the licensing or permission. Having the pin code combination to a gun safe is considered being in possession of the firearms.
Maybe I should just tell you what it is, record it on the blockchain.

That is some truly interesting marketing the safe and gun companies have lobbied with the government. :) All guns in safe and when owner dies the guns just rust away together with safe... therefore the kin "needs" to buy another "new" safe. In addition to buying another "firearm" to replace the lost one. and The cycle continues.... All because if there is a gun, one cannot share passcodes. Brilliant !Whoever is doing marketing for safes and guns in Australia needs to recieve a Nobel Prize.

It's draconian for sure. Don't get me wrong, I am all for gun safety, but it brings issues that the government won't address no matter how logical the solutions presented are.

I love to find more things about the Glock 19. As perhaps many people from here, I've only seen the pistol in games (CSGO for example) but it always stirred lots of interest. Unfortunately I haven't been to a shooting rage yet where I can use such a gun, but until then I'm happy to see realistic pictures with it :)
As a gamer myself I completely understand where you are coming from. Because I actually knew about the Glock pistol from counterstrike game before I saw the real one in front of me.
Because I practically learned all my basic gun knowledge from shooting games it helped me accelerate the real learning from my instructors. It actually really does help!!
