I don't see the advantage anywhere, because it is condemning the posts to last only 1 day, because after that they are the fruit of the penalty. Instead of decreasing it would be alarming the amount of bots that would be trying to share the curation and in the end the post would be just as relegated, not to mention what I said at the beginning, that the author would be subject to the fact that his publication must be seen in 24 hours, but would get paid 6 days later, serving as a filler, like a waste in a landfill.
Personally, and this is my humble opinion, the posts should not be penalized and leave the proposed distribution for the 7 days.

See my additional notes at the bottom of my post. Several other commenters have misunderstood the function of the weighting, which only controls how curation rewards are distributed. The new algorithm is actually better for later voters than the current one. Depending on circumstances, you can actually receive little to no curation penalty for voting on a post that is several days old.
