Four more reasons to use Hive-Tube for streaming

in HiveDevs2 years ago (edited)

Peertube + Hive = Hive-Tube (Hive-Tube.com)

Let's clarify a few things

I just listened to a recent #twitterspaces recording today from a Hive user, to remain unnamed (we'll call this person Pat to protect their identity). I like this person just fyi, as that person has been very helpful to me recently.

Pat made some comments about Peertube instances (servers) which are not entirely accurate however, and, not true at all if the instance admin installs our free Hive-Tube plugin (which Pat did not mention by the way, so we're cool).

Pat implies how peertube instances are NOT good (nevermind its benefits of P2P streaming and free Fediverse syndication) because you have to find "someone to host an instance, setup a db, setup the encoding, setup the storage" etc .... all the while "unpaid". That is NOT true for peertube instances that install our free Hive-Tube plugin.

Site Hosts (instance admins), Creators, AND the viewers/listeners can earn Hive on a Hive-Tube enabled instance, automatically, with no middlemen. It takes the average sysadmin about 15 minutes to install the peertube server software, and configure their desired settings.

Literally, 15 minutes tops. I'll even do it for you for free if you like.

Every week there are HUNDREDS of Hive-Tube instances coming online. Peertube server also supports remote (distributed!) storage, remote transcoding soon, and Site Hosts can automatically compensate those remote nodes via the Hive beneficiaries system.

All of that is up and running great right now, no need to wait.

So, I'm sorry Pat, but all of the points you just made about peertube servers, especially ones that install the free Hive-Tube plugin are wrong. Hopefully folks will look more into Hive-Tube soon..

Very excited to get my first podcast episode recorded and syndicated through Hive-Tube! :D

Let me guess. Pat thinks it's much better to go use a clunky, slow "semi centralized" dapp that doesnt offer P2P, with a UI that looks like a middle school student designed. Spend 2-3 hrs trying to upload and encode a 15 min video that other users may or may not be able to get to load and watch after 20 minutes of buffering. And then if it's older than 7 days takes even longer to load? Thats a better experience than Peertube?
Sounds more like Pat is pulling straws to argue for keeping with his or her choice of tokenomics than actually using and experiencing Peertube.

I don't know, but Pat's comments were indeed waaaay off base though. Words have meaning and FUD can lead people astray. False info needs to be corrected (or at least debated) as soon as it hits the airwaves, otherwise those false comments magically become fact after awhile to the sheeple.

Exactly. People with vested interests can not be trusted to see things objectively.

I hope Pat will change their mind and support Hive-tube!!

That's a nice find, and only from 2 days ago. Looks like being at final frontier here. Greetings to you @kencode!

I was just looking for more instances with the question how federated they are and whether videos from one are available on others. (I'm still new to this peer-tube thing). Anyway, the one I found at first was this and it does not look like it has Hive integration, even though it reads "Hive-Tube". https://hive-tube.f5.htw-berlin.de/about/instance

Nice to have four examples here from you, not only the first two I have already seen. So let me ask it again: How to find those hundreds of instances? !invest_vote

Yeah, I want to write a little scraper script that can find all of the Hive-Tube based instances out there, I just haven't had the time to get it done.

BeeToons.tv has about 30 other websites syndicating her instance:
https://beetoons.tv/about/follows

Finding who is following who though, will take a bit of work. Right now I'm working on the auto-import script. The peertube v5 upgrade was a beast and it broke some things. Anyway, auto-imports make it a lot easier for people to leave sites (or use a Hive-Tube site in tandem) like youtube, bitchute, spotify, pandora and even netflix.

I like to watch the "weekly downloads" stat here:
https://www.npmjs.com/package/peertube-plugin-hive-tube
It shows us how many sites are downloading/installing Hive-Tube on their servers, but it doesn't tell us who. Don't worry though, that is another scraper script I would like to get done too at some point.
