Progress!

So I stopped by the datacenter yesterday to drop off some supplies, and I was surprised to learn that one of the servers had arrived. And it was the one that's going to be hosting the Hive seed node in Chicago, as well as the file server to have another copy of https://snapshots.hive.blog/snapshots/latest/.

Absolutely nothing there. I'm thankful that the datacenter put in some blanking panels already and I didn't have to do that work myself. Putting in 42 of them would have taken up more time than I'd have liked.

Here's some photos of the server that I got. I was a bit confused as to why it only had 2 sticks of ram, but when I got home, I found out the person who was responsible for ordering them didn't properly read the quote from the vendor and just said yes, so I have to source 2x32G sticks of ram myself.

It's a beefly little system, went with the 7950X3D and once done, it's going to have 128GB of ECC DDR5 ram. 4 TB of raw NVME storage total is going to be in it(probably in RAID1 so 2TB usable) and a 8TB HDD as well. Got room for 3 more HDD if I need more capacity in the future.

I ended up not finishing up racking it, I barely got a switch racked and noticed I was late for something else so had to leave, but I'll be returning this weekend to finish the initial install. It's shaping up to be something great and we should have this thing powered up and able to send data by next Monday!

noice

noice indeed. Happy to get this project towards step 1 of completion. I still have to setup the router tomorrow and install that this weekend too. Soooo much work to do, so little time to do it all.

Great to see people building their own stuff :)
Well done!

Racking stuff is always a lot harder than it needs to be. For some reason I can't seem to get the hard drive to lock into place either, another thing to look into when I am back at the datacenter. Always fun stuff going on.

Keep it up
