Is Passion Enough

IS PASSION ENOUGH FOR YOUR BUSINESS SUCCESS?

This is my first post on Hive. I was introduced to the platform by a friend @christinepoulos

She is so enthusiastic about Hive and has been on the platform for some four years now, when she started out with Steem.

I am sharing a post I wrote a few years ago and posted in FB.

My desire is to help and empower people and see them grow.

Here is the first part of my article:

I think passion is an over-used word. Passion is associated with the fairy-tale stories of other people’s glamorous lives and their successful businesses. People attribute their success to their deep sense of passion and they make it all seem like a carefree adventure. So I asked myself, is passion enough for an entrepreneur to succeed?

I hear stories of what others have accomplished and their success seems far removed from where I am standing. How can they be so far along the journey while I am struggling? I care about what I am working on! What am I doing wrong? If only I had enough passion, maybe I would succeed too!

Ekaterina Walter defines passion as “what turns an entrepreneur into a successful leader. If passion drives you, you won’t give up, no matter how long the journey!”

If passion drives you, you won’t give up, no matter how long the journey!

I know that my passion grows when I see the lightbulb go on in the minds of my students. When they start to apply the knowledge and develop the skills to succeed. I love to see the lives of young women change as they are empowered towards independence. As a social entrepreneur, I care enough about African youth and women that I committed my strength, knowledge, and understanding to help them grow.

But is my passion enough to bring me success? Is passion all I need to succeed, in life and in business?

Passion is related to commitment and my commitment was severely tested during the 7 years when I worked in post-conflict West Africa. I often felt alone and misunderstood because I was torn between my passion and purpose, and the expectations of my family and friends. I had a solid plan and clear milestones that outlined the pathway for me, but on the bad days it felt like I would never overcome the many obstacles.

To be continued ...

Hi Avril. Welcome to the Blockchain. Christine said I should stop by and say hi.

I like your post and I think passion is necessary for you to succeed in the entrepreneurial world, however at the moment we are facing so many new challenges that it's even MORE difficult to succeed as an entrepreneur even if you have all the passion in the world.

This is coming from my experience over the last few years trying to build up my own business from nothing and I find myself at the precipice of having to pack it in and go back to a corporate environment.

I have loads of passion for my work and I believe I provide good value to my clients, I work hard and I offer services at excellent rates, yet I'm probably going to end up working in a corporate job doing something I am not passionate about while essentially building someone else's business.

So it's a good question - is passion enough? I would like to think in a just world where effort is rewarded that it would be, but the world isn't like that anymore. Society has decayed and good old fashioned work ethic is not rewarded the way it once was.

Regarding posting on Hive, I am going to offer some unsolicited advice here for you starting out - ensure that you aren't copying from another platform (like Facebook for example) even if it is your own words there - this is called respinning I believe and it is frowned on by the curators here. Make sure that everything you post is 100% your original words and if you use images that aren't yours, like royalty free stock images from pixabay or pexels that you include an image source in your post.

Here is a link to a great run down of tips, it was the first guide I read when I started and it helped tremendously.

Hope to read lots of your posts coming up, I am sure I can learn loads from you.

Have a great evening
