RE: Urinary Tract Issues

Stress, which you have been experiencing, makes us more prone to getting sick or for chronic conditions to manifest themselves.

There is something that helps me sometimes that is a concept from stoic philosophy -
" Some things are in our control and others not." - when we agonize other things not in our control we can do ourselves much harm.

Short bursts of stress are known to have positive effects on the body; chronic, low-grade stress, on the other hand, has significantly deleterious effects.

The aspect of stoicism that you've pointed out is something I've been telling myself for years, even before I heard of the philosophy! However, evidently, I haven't taken that phrase to heart.

I've briefly read about the stoic philosophy in the past. I greatly respect the concept. It would require some significant changes to some of my core beliefs - because I'm the type of person who tends to care too much. I don't want to completely lose my empathy, as this is a value which I hold dear, and one which enhances me in my career. It would be great if I could reconcile both stoicism and empathy.

For the time being, I'll continue working on meditation. This is something which I think will help me handle my stress better.

Finishing residency is also going to be very important - that great stressor will be gone from my life!

I'm definitely not fully stoic, detachment from somethings is good, but not at the expense of empathy.
