So from what I understand, everyone who has the duo token staked will have their publication voted on. Is that so or am I wrong? Because if that is so, they will immediately start giving you negative votes on your publications and wherever you are voting, since that is frowned upon, but if I am wrong, nothing will happen.

That is not correct. Anyone with sufficient tokens will receive daily Hive dividends, and can be eligible for curation. However if the account is black listed by Hive Watchers they are not eligible. Likewise anyone producing repetitive, plagiarized, or substandard material can lose curations permanently. Curations are in no way guaranteed.
