Good Day Fellow Splinterlands Mage
Welcome to my weekly Splinterlands post, I like to write about about Splinterlands during Weekends. Splinterlands is one of the best blockchain Trading Card Game, and that's the reason I still play it today and still share my Splinterlands activity here on Hive.
My topic for this post is about martyr. We got our first Martyr last year in 2023, and it was this rat. Venari Marksrat is everyone favorite martyr, he has the lowest health and easily die for nothing. A martyr must be died first before the ability is activated.
During Equal Opportunity, I see a martyr is crucial to get your team into winning side. Thare are some battles I have seen that the victors did not use any martyr, but honestly most of the time, the one who utilize martyr better usually come out as the winner.
I will pick a battle with Equal Opportunity ruleset, and we will see the point I have be talking here. So let's see how our battle then...
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE
This is the battle I pick for today post. I like this kind of battle, where both my opponent and my team had different element team and we used different kind of meta. They came with fire element, and their major focus was exploiting tarsa +1 health point. I really did not understand why they did not employe more melee units, maybe he wanted to come unpredictable.
My meta was well simple, I relied only 3 units only, Cursed windeku, Pelacor Deceiver and Venari Bonesmith. These 3 were my cores and I used the rest to support these trio including Venari Marksrat.
There was one big question in my line up, it was Venari Marksrat placement. In general I should put him next to Cursed Windeku, regarding Windeku was my strongest unit. However I decided to put him in between Venari Bonesmith and Pelacor Deceiver. I thought some possibility that my Cursed Windeku might be killed very soon, well who knew how my opponent would come anyway.
Let see how this go
- The battle started with both side buffing and debuffing both parties. Overall my team and their team had similar speed.
- They came with 5 melee damage, 5 range damage and 3 magic damage, combined all it became 13 damage per round.
- My team had 8 melee damage, 1 range damage and 2 magic damage, so our team had a total 11 damage per round.
- They hit harder, this would be a great advantage for their side. However my team had more abilities than them, such as heal, leech, poison and others.
- They made the first kill, it was Venari Marksrat that died first. However after that kill, everything worked favoring my side.
- My team killed 2 units in the first round and I made another kill in this round, so my team maintained our lead here
- Round 3 started with 3 vs 4 condition. Thing would not look good on their side, regarding my 4 units were in good shape.
- However this round ended as a draw, both of us only took down a target.
- I think at this point, we can say that I have won the battle. I could not see any possibility they could end up winning or making a turning point.
- They managed to hang on a round longer, however Round 5 was the last. Good Game.
Battle Talk and Closure
I would not speak long and detail in this post. We already have many good posts on Hive about how good Martyrs are. We are not talking about Venari Marksrat in detail, but in global I rise this topic because some of the players are beginning to overlook Martyr.
New units are always awesome. Some soulbound rewards cards from Rebellion edition are very strong and I can understand that in the end people think they do not need Martyr, they can swipe their opponent through direct approach.
Well they are right from some point of views. However I still believe that during Equal Opportunity ruleset, the existence of a Martyr is deeply needed. There are always some debate here, but one point that can not be neglected is that during Equal Opportunity, a bait is definitely needed.
We need a unit that meant to be killed first, because we do not want some strong hitter in our line up get hit and killed first. Equal Opportunity means everyone will attack their lowest health opponent, so most of the time, or maybe in all battle, We need to intentionally place a weak unit so our hitter is not attacked first.
And the best filler or meat wall for baiting those attacks are Martyr. Almost all martyr have low health point, although a few are actually giant. So health point - wise, this unit suit best for bait.
In this battle, my opponent did not use or bring any bait, and this was the main reason he lost the battle. I did not see his units were weak, in fact he had better units than me. He had Doctor Blight, and all his units had higher level than mine. So he had zero excuse to lose, except due to no bait, he lost his important units first which was Uraeus. If he put in Venari Marksrat as Uraeus Replacement, I might have a hard time fighting him in this battle.
So that's why I made a post with the title like that, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY ALWAYS FAVORING MARTYR. I believe during this ruleset, the one who exploit martyr most of the time will come out as the victor.
And as I said that, I am closing this post. I would like to thank you for your visit here. See you in Splinterlands Rank Battles!!!
