Hello Friends, It's Nice To See You again
In this opportunity, I will share a simple way about how to build up your selection before going for a battle rank run. I am not talking about how we build up meta, but more like how we prepare our cards first.
Currently I am playing in Silver League, so I think my suggestion should be more pin point accurate for adoption than a great player who are playing at the highest league. The easiest way is to buy everything at the max level, but this is not a pay to win web 2.0 games. Part of Play-2-Earn games is to make players earn from their plays, and buying, acquiring, renting at economical value is part of the game ecosystem.
So through this post, I hope I can give some insight to smaller players and newbies.
All START FROM SUMMONERS
Everything start from the summoners. So getting the best summoners should be the key, just buy them or rent them, right? In general term, that's not wrong, but I prefer to share another point of view here.
Your summoners will limit how high your cards level allowed into the battle. And for some people who like to play casually, not pushing themselves into some serious competitive mode, getting max level is not a great choice either.
Above are summoners available for my selection. I play summoners on Silver League Cap to Gold Cap, so right in the middle. Not Too High and not to low, atleast they will be competitive in general term, especially if you play like me in silver-Gold league.
The red box are the zone that I often recommend to my friends. I do not recommend Level 1 and level 2 summoners, they are to plain. It gives you some feeling that you are playing starter cards.
Anyway do not think you will play easily in Bronze league by having those low level summoners. in Bronze league, most of the human players have max level deck, because they usually look for the shortest cut they can get, paying for the highest to get them to the top as soon as possible. Or some noobs who haven't got good grasp on this game, and end up paying the highest for a quick fix.
There is a good reason why I do not recommend higher level summoner, for the diamond level. A high level summoners are useless if you don't fill your line up with high level cards too. So unless you have decided to go to the highest level, or want to farm GOLD-DIAMOND league, don't think about getting max level summoners.
Wait.. you can say even at lower league, high level summoners can give us better win rate, right? Well yes in some term, but it won't be economical. I don't want some new players end up cursing #splinterlands because they buy the concept of buying max everything, then without proper experience, they perform badly, earning less, then blaming low APR and others.
This game fun if you play in your zone
GOOD TANKS IS MANDATORY
So what units should we get? of course all of them. That's a stupid question but that question often mislead people. If you ask me, the first one you should get are good tanks. Not the best tank, the great tank but more specific good tanks that can perform well for you, don't matter they are great or the best one.
I will show you some of mine, and hopefully will give you some idea about what I am telling you here. I do not like making a great narration out from nothing, so I will use my own account for reference.
My Death Element
Cursed Windeku is one of my favorite tanks from Chaos Legion edition. I have him at level 6, I bought him last year. He is the ideal tank for me, not the best but the most efficient one.
The second tank is Djinn Muirat, I rent him from other player. If somehow I can not deploy Cursed Windeku, I will have him as the replacement. He is an anti magic tank, and cursed Windeku is anti melee tank.
The third option is Queen of Crows, of course this one is the anti range tank. She has that headwind ability that debuff opponent range damage. She could perform as backup secondary tank too.
So basically by having these three, I have a wide selection on how I will have my line up and what meta I will deploy. I could adjust my squad based on the ruleset too, for example, if somehow I have range only ruleset, I can deploy queen of crows and I will still be on good condition.
Let see my other element tank selection...
My Water Element
A bit dejavu with Cursed windeku huh? Yes Sea Monster is similar to Cursed Windeku, but Sea monster moves slower but hits harder. This is an old card that I won't use in Modern Format, my trump card in Gold Foil Brawl.
I rent Nerissa Tridawn, I like her because I think she is a good mage tank. If I get a magic only ruleset, she will play great part in my team. There is another one, Djinn Oshannus, but it is a regular foil one, not a Gold Foil one so I won't spill here.
Let's check another one, I won't show them all, in quick view only
My Fire Element
I will make this quick, I don't want to make my post here looks like an encyclopedia.
I have two good tanks for My Fire Element, one is Forgotten one. He is a beast, one of the strongest melee slugfest tank from Chaos Legion. The second one is Tinderlock, a great secondary tank. He is a range unit but has a close range ability.
I won't share the rest, it's too long but I hope you get the idea from what I have shared above.
Resume of Tanks
So rather than focusing on other units, try to focus on tanks first. How many tanks you should get, or what kind of tanks, are differ for each players. But this is a guidance from me if you are not sure about it.
- You must have a card for Little League Tank, a tank for 4 mana cost or below.
- You must have a good melee tank.
- A good non melee tank, either magic or range units. Better to have each of them in your selection.
There are many point of view or formula to define which tank you should get, but let's start from these simple points. When you have those, I could say you already get the basic.
What About Other Units?
You can fill up your line up by renting common and rare units up to level cap you get from your summoners. I do not like promoting Epic and Legendaries. They are great, but they are deception for new players... Instead of mastering some meta on Common-Meta units, most new players will get lured to get Legendary in hope getting a holy grail in their line up.
So my recommendation is simple, get all common and rare of any edition, better the last one which make you eligible to play in Modern format, then learn how to play with them. Grind everyday, so you can get more soulbound units. Soulbound are great cards, but they are often underrated.
Ok I don't want to complicate things up, just do what I share above, you should be fine. if you have different opinion or some feedback, feel free to leave any comments below.
