Hello Fellow Splinterlands Players
Welcome to my Weekly Splinterlands Post, a regular posts I make during weekends. For today topic, I will pick this new Reward Card, Olivia The Brook. Wonder which card is she? Well look at this table below:
In a glance, nothing special about this card. I mean it is very good to have two kind of attack, but it is not special because all the number are average. 3 Speed is not fast, 4 to 6 health point is not even considered decent.
However this card is actually a unique and very special. It was viral everywhere because of only one reason, her unique MIMIC ability.
Mimic can give her various kind of abilities and this could end up by making her a ridiculous power house. The best way to prevent this is to put her down as soon as possible. Based on that understanding, I start to think that maybe if I have a battle that will be a long rally, having her in my team would be wonderful. She will end up as the Superstars.
So Let's pick a battle to test that out, shall we?
HIGHLIGHTED BATTLE
I pick this battle because I think the ruleset could support a long battle. Here the ruleset I share enlarged below:
With magic only or wands out, I could use several healer and weak magic gives an alternative of healing too. So these combination would allow me to make an extraordinary turtle formation, which I could focus ridiculously on defense only.
You can see that 3 of my units are actually supports or healers. They will buy times as long as they can to let my Olivia of The brook keep stuffing her up with abilities from her MIMIC.
Let see how this go
- The battle started with both side buffing themselves and debuffing their opponent. It's a bit funny to see my opponent came with more ultra defensive approach, they have 4 healers or supports in their line up.
- They came with 11 magic per round.
- My team had 1 melee damage and 12 magic damage, so our team had a total 13 damage per round.
- My team hit harder and they healed better, this would be a long long round battles. Prepare some pillow because we might fall asleep in the middle LoL
- My Olivia of The Brook started her Mimic ability, she got flying as her first extra ability.
- However as we predicted before, nothing was changed in the first round.
- The third round started with exactly the same condition as the first round and second round
- The only difference was that Olivia got repair ability this time.
- I skipped forward to the fifth round, and everything was exactly the same. It was a stale mate.
- This time Olivia of The brook got Tank Heal.
- It's round 7th this time. My Olivia of The Brook got the best ability I needed, Blood lust. But I wondered would it be useful if none could kill nor be killed LoL
- This time I clicked "SKIP TO FATIGUE", it got me to round 21... and It was funny to see everyone were still exactly the same as the first round. Except for one unit
- Olivia of The Brook... How many abilities had she got? 14!!!
- However she died from fatigue on round 23. Luckily I brought Adelaide Brightwing right? she revived Oliva of The Brook
- Due to fatigue, she died again on the next round. what a bummer.
- It ended at round 25. Overall we could say it was a Good Game
So what Do I learn After Using Oliva in this battle?
First I think I am correct that if we want to exploit her MIMIC ability, we need an ultra defensive line up and meta. However this could be a double edge sword, because you might lose some benefits or advantages just for seeing Super Strong Olivia of The Brook.
Second, despite her growing abilities from the MIMIC, she is still weak. Poison, blast, and others might kill her. So You need to be precisely on how to guard her from early phase attacks.
Third, her strength is decided by everyone abilities. So if the battle relied too much on basic mechanism, I mean only numbers: attack - speed - health, Olivia of The Brook can not grow extraordinarily. Who and what she can mimic get limited. You might want to add some units which abilities are need by Olivia to mimic, but this is a very risky move.
Ok that's all for today post. What do you think, do you have any suggestion how I should play her better? please feel free to share it below on comments.

That's the problem I've had with her is that she's weak. If she had some stronger health she would be a seriously badass card.
