Another Health Scare With Mom

Today was the the day that I was going to pick up my Mom after her procedure. Yet, the procedure did not take place!

There was an understandable reason for this. The anesthesiologists noticed that one of her legs was more swollen than the other, plus the calf was very painful to the touch. The first thought that comes to mind in this situation is a deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot of one of the large veins inside the leg), which, if present, runs a risk of the blood clot traveling to other areas, more scarily either the lung or the brain.

I did know that the swelling was present in her legs already, but she's had that for a while. It had gotten worse over the last week in both legs, but what I didn't know was that over the past 2 days, the swelling went down in one leg but not the other. I missed this aspect, and that's pretty terrible on my behalf.

At any rate, the procedure was cancelled and we jumped through a ton of hoops to get an outpatient ultrasound completed the same day. That in itself was an entire adventure because we met roadblocks at every turn, but we did get it accomplished, and finally made it to the ultrasound.

Fortunately, there was no blood clot in the leg. There was something called a Baker's Cyst, which is a cyst that's located behind the knee. I've heard of and identified these in the past, and the pattern of pain and swelling did appear consistent with this. It's obviously essential to rule out a blood clot, however, so it was necessary to do this ultrasound regardless.

We'll see when the procedure is going to be rescheduled again. This is now the 3rd time that it's being rescheduled (the first time was because my Grandmother got hospitalized, the second time due to very high blood pressure, and now this time because of the leg swelling). 4th time's a charm?

Outside of that, I did stay over at my friend's apartment last night. He was held up very late at work, so we didn't really spend any time together aside from the commute. He just went to take a shower and passed out because he had to be up early. I understood the situation, having had the same schedule in the past.

Why is the only excitement in my life right now negative stuff lol? So be it. Just have to get through these hard times for now, and hope that things will improve as the year goes on. It's still a challenge while the tough times are going on, knowing that the end is not yet in sight.
