At the end of last year, I was sorting through my closet and found a lot of old photos. The photos I uploaded this time are the scenery on the way to the summit of Mt Fuji and the sunrise from the top of the mountain. They were taken with an instant camera and had already faded considerably. I took close-up photos of the developed photos with my smartphone and posted them.

When I was in high school, my family became a homestay host family. A high school girl from Richmond, USA, came and stayed with us for about a month.

The homestay program included a tour up Mt. Fuji, and somehow I ended up climbing the mountain with her. I remember that the day of the climb was just the day of the interview test (second test) for The EIKEN Test in Practical English Proficiency. Even if you skipped the test once, you could take only the interview the next time if you applied for it. Therefore, I prioritized climbing Mt.Fuji.

But my first time climbing the mountain was tougher than I had imagined. The grade was steep, the pace of the climb was fast, and the closer we got to the top, the colder it got. Furthermore, the guest girls were clustered together with other Americans, happily speaking in English, and I could not join their circle. Although I was good at English as a subject at the time, I could hardly actually hear native English speakers, and I felt alienated the whole time I was climbing Mt.Fuji. I climbed the mountain with regret, wishing I had gone for the Eiken interview if this was the case.

It was a mentally demanding climb (the oxygen was thin at the top, and some people collapsed, which was scary), but I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the clouds moving at my feet. These photos, though poorly taken, were so moving to my 17-year-old self that I couldn't help but take them. When I thought so, I wanted to keep them permanently on Hive.

I want to see this scene again from Mt. Fuji.

Good story and amazing views! Would Like to see that myself one day. Fuji is Kind of a holy Mountain in Japan, isn’t it?

Yes, it is a symbolic mountain of Japan.
Now I remember another episode, a man named Paul who climbed the mountain with me said, “Mt. Fuji is not a mountain to climb, it is a mountain to see". That's how tough the climb was😂

That’s a nice saying

Good stuffs!!⚡⚡⚡🤛🏻

Thank you😁
The quality of the photos is poor as they are over 20 years old, but I am glad you enjoyed them.

Thats what make them looks so amazing 💎

you should go now get updated pictures kyo

I don't know what to tell you about the photos. I might agree that they don't have great image quality. But they really are spectacular. Hive is a great place for them.

Best regards, @go-kyo.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Yes, you do need to climb it again to rectify your first climb.

I've always wanted to climb it, but never seem to be able to find the time. That and I am worried I would be looking at too many of the rocks to make it to the summit.
