You don't need an expert to tell you that Bitcoin mining is hard work and needs a lot of power. Just trying googling online for how much power you need to mine Bitcoin coin, you'll be shocked.
Yes, it makes money for people that manage to succeed with it but it also hurts local electricity. If you want to mine one Bitcoin, you need about 155,000 kilowatt hour of electricity. Each mining transaction takes about 851 kWh which is like the power one average American home uses in a single month. I don't have the money for this kind of electricity so I'll just forget about it.
This Bitcoin mining problem is everywhere in the world. In Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the national electricity company says it lost over 440 million Ringgit, if you covert that to USD it's about $101 million just because of illegal electricity used for Bitcoin mining. They also took electrical items worth about $500,000 from these mining operations.
I don't think the mining will slow down any day because people know the kind of cash it brings and they don't care about the environment as much as they would about their pockets. I was considering mining in the future but I don't want to contribute to the environmental problems future generations will have.
People of the future, will blame us for the trouble they'll face and maybe I'll be at peace knowing that I wasn't part.
