Day -2: Journal (Detachment and Duty) // Lessons from Gita

Week 1, Day 2 – Detachment & Duty

Today, I read Bhagavad Gita 2.47, which says:

"You have a right to perform your duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions. Do not be attached to the results, but do your work with dedication."

This verse really made me think. I often find myself worrying about outcomes—whether my efforts will be appreciated, if I’ll succeed, or if things will go as planned. But Krishna is saying something profound: focus on the work itself, not on what you will get from it.

I thought about a time when I worked really hard on something but felt disappointed because I didn’t get the recognition I expected. That disappointment overshadowed the joy of doing the work itself. But what if I had just focused on giving my best, without worrying about the result? Maybe I would have found more peace in the process.

This verse teaches that true fulfillment comes from putting in sincere effort, not from clinging to results. Success and failure are temporary, but the mindset we cultivate through our actions stays with us.

So today, I will try to work without attachment—whether it’s in my job, studies, or even small tasks. I will give my best and let go of the worry about what happens next.

Lessons from Today’s Reading:

  1. I have control over my actions, but not over the results.
  2. Focusing too much on outcomes leads to stress, while focusing on effort brings peace.
  3. True growth comes from dedication, not from external rewards.

Actions for the Day:

  1. Complete my tasks today with full dedication, without worrying about recognition or results.
  2. When I catch myself stressing about an outcome, take a deep breath and shift focus back to the present effort.
  3. Remind myself that growth happens in the process, not just in success or failure.

This feels like a liberating mindset shift. Excited to see where this journey takes me! 😊
