At Last, HiveBuzz Dies With No Support!

Is it a shocker?
Let me tell you my dear reader, NO! It is not a shocker. It is perfectly normal considering our current direction. Allow me to elaborate.

  1. Before we start, what is HiveBuzz?
Like any normal forum, there are badges for engagement. Each user can view their activity badges and find what is the remaining for the next badge. In addition, you can view the rankings of all Hive Accounts, to know where you are, who is the biggest delegator or delegatee.

  2. Why is it important?
It is something that forums use to increase its users' engagement. Iterating on a quote from @slobberchops post, if you are here to milk the cash cow then, it probably doesn't matter (https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@slobberchops/are-you-on-hive-to-invest-or-to-milk-the-cash-cow).

However, if you value those who write or engage because, they enjoy it. Or, if you have been here for a while. HiveBuzz might be something that you want around. For instance, my current ranking in Hive is #23818. You can check yours too alongside your reputation according to Hive. It is really cool to see where you at and how much you moved up or down comparing to other users. It is a thing that is called "gamification" which leads me to my next point.

  1. Gamification
This has been recognized as a successful approach for many world wide recognizable companies. Where they introduce something like this to retain their user base.

But, what user base are we having or making?

  1. To Our Beloved User Base
Of course, all the users in any platform is what makes the platform successful. If people lost their interest in any a platform, it loses its value.

We all know that platforms like this is lucrative. With that being said, we understand that all of us don't mind gaining something (big or small) for our time here.

But, on what expense?

I'm not against users making profits. There is nothing wrong with that. But, at some point we may need to support those who are genuine and make decisions in favor of supporting the whole ecosystem. (Don't get me wrong here, I am not talking about HiveBuzz in particular, or in a way saying that all of their decisions are perfect. But, that will be your own opinion to make according to what value you think they are adding to the platform).

  1. What HiveBuzz needs?
If you reach here, you probably wondering, what do they need. Well,

HiveBuzz needs support on their DHF Proposal (https://peakd.com/hive-139531/@hivebuzz/proposal-2324).

According to @bradleyarrow post, there proposal is currently at 31,593,601.056HP and they need to raise it to 34,608,376.230HP.

With a little over 3 million HP of users' support to get HiveBuzz funded again. Else, its probably going to be a dead project.

To conclude, this post was written to raise awareness. If you know or would like to support HiveBuzz, then I can tell you this, every contribution helps.

I know some people dispute the value of this proposal, but I do think gamification matters. It would be easier to justify if we had far more users.

I do think that proposals should give updates on how the money is being spent so that the community can make judgements on their voting, e.g. how many developers, what hardware.

I totally agree!
If we have something working, we either move forward from it or keep it as it is. It would be disappointing to let this go.

Regarding the money part, yeah that should be shared and clarified.

Thanks for bringing awareness to the fate of this gameification project.

Sure thing! & Thanks for the support.

Indeed! Gamification plays a big role in user retention.

Had a look at the proposal but $200,000 for this work for the next 2 years sounds alot. As a web developer and having a fair bit of experience in php and other programming languages I can safely say that it is something that can be easily automated (if not already) for the most part and the server requirements for running the scripts in the back end is not something that would need extremely powerful resources as it is just fetching the existing blockchain data.

3 people for graphic design for 2 years! that sounds excessive. All I see is apparently just pictures and banners of bees in cartoon format which appears to be designed by someone who is just starting the process of learning graphic design with very ordinary skills.

If it was in my hands to decide whether to approve it or not with 10x lower budget I would still say no. It is a big no from me.

Those who want to approve it with the proposed budget I want to say please stop abusing the DHF. Just because the community can financially afford it does not mean it should.

The project itself is fine the badges system I believe is already automated and I would like it to continue which should not be costing even 5% of the proposed budget cost.

Fair enough!

Honestly speaking, if this will continue or stop. It might not affect me individually.

I understand that this has been there since the old days. So, if we have something that is working, it would be a shame to just get rid of it. But, if the amount being asked is unreasonable considering the work being done. Then, the wise decision might not necessarily be, to continue.
