Magic Mayhem: When Poison and Healing Collide

in FreeCompliments6 hours ago

Hello, Splinterlanders! Welcome back to the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Favorite Strategies.

Have you ever felt like you’re playing roulette on the battlefield? Well, that’s exactly how my recent battle felt. With the Aimless and Wands Out rulesets in play, it was like rolling dice and hoping luck would be on my side. But hey, isn’t that what makes the game even more exciting? This battle wasn’t just about winning or losing—it was about cleverly using the rulesets to dominate the battlefield. Let me tell you all about it!

Chaos with the Aimless Ruleset!

The battle began with a 25-mana cap and only magic monsters allowed. The combo? Aimless, where every attack goes randomly like flipping a coin, and Wands Out, which permits only magic-wielding monsters.

I chose the Dragon element—because seriously, who doesn’t love dragons?

My team lineup included:

  1. VOID DRAGON (Level 3): A sleek tank with the Phase ability, making enemy magic attacks often miss.
  2. DARK ARBORIST (Level 3): The magic reflector who dishes back some damage with Magic Reflect.
  3. SPIRIT HOARDER (Level 2): A small but mighty healer with Triage, saving the team from destruction.
  4. VENARI BONESMITH (Level 6): Our poison hero, silently chipping away at the enemy.
  5. ARACHNE WEAVER (Level 2): A specialist in Corrupted Healing, like a doctor who makes others sick with their own meds.

The opponent, on the other hand, brought a terrifying high-level magic team:

  • USUT (Level 3): A beast with Bloodlust, growing stronger with every kill.
  • VENARI SPELLSMITH (Level 8): Armed with Redemption, causing trouble even in death.
  • LIFE SAPPER (Level 8): Sporting Life Leech, growing tankier over time.
  • BARON FYATT (Level 4): A magic sniper with Ambush.

Both of us used QUIX THE DEVIOUS as summoners. Seems like we both love slowing down opponents on the battlefield.

Round 1: Let the Poison Land!

The battle kicked off, and as expected, it was pure chaos. VENARI BONESMITH immediately landed poison on BARON FYATT—a point for my team! But the opponent fought back, and my team started feeling the sting of their magic. Thankfully, SPIRIT HOARDER and ARACHNE WEAVER stepped in to heal, like having a personal medical squad in the heat of battle.

Rounds 2 and 3: The Chaos Unfolds

In round two, BARON FYATT fell. I started feeling optimistic, but it was just the beginning.
By round three, poison finally hit USUT—a delightful moment, like receiving an early birthday gift! However, things got messy when LIFE SAPPER went down, triggering a poisonous farewell with Redemption, damaging my entire team.

Rounds 4 to the End: Poison Reigns Supreme

In round four, I lost SPIRIT HOARDER, my trusted healer. Honestly, that stung a bit, but the poison on USUT began to show its impact. By round five, VENARI SPELLSMITH exited the arena, leaving another disruptive Redemption effect, taking ARACHNE WEAVER with it.

Finally, in round six, USUT, the relentless self-healing beast, couldn’t hold on any longer. The poison overwhelmed him, and as he fell, I smiled—a hard-fought victory feels the sweetest!

Winning Strategies in Chaos

What was the key to victory? Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Spread poison with VENARI BONESMITH. In Aimless, poison works wonders as it steadily chips away at the enemy.
  2. Heal the team using monsters like SPIRIT HOARDER, and leverage Corrupted Healing to disrupt the opponent.
  3. Choose VOID DRAGON as your front-line tank to dodge magic attacks.
  4. Use monsters with Magic Reflect like DARK ARBORIST to protect the backline.

Valuable Lessons

This battle taught me that a solid strategy can triumph over higher-level opponents. Sometimes, random elements like the Aimless ruleset can actually work in your favor if you know how to capitalize on them. Pair random attacks with blast or poison abilities to dominate your battlefield.
