RE: I want to create a Japanese community / 日本語コミュニティをつくりたいと思っています(English&Japanese)

I think the culture of the community can definitely make it more sustainable. I think encouraging people to have English translations of their posts will help them engage with the larger hive community more, even if they use GPT to translate their post.

If they connect with the larger community at Hive they are much more likely to stay.

Yes, I'm actually quite worried about the posting rules. Even though translation has become much easier with DeepL and ChatGPT, I think it's quite hard work for Japanese who are not used to this platform to put English alongside. But if we want people from other countries to read our site, we need to put translations on it.

I haven't decided yet, but I'm thinking of allowing "English + Japanese" and "only Japanese is also OK" as the posting language. ありがとう☺

I don’t think it should be a rule. Just a suggestion with frequent reminders. “just remember you can reach more people and potentially get more votes and engagement if you add an english translation, even copy and pasted from chatgpt is ok. Just make sure the Japanese version is your original content”. Something like that, in japanese obviously.

You could also have contests or something to encourage it. I can offer a few hive if you do that. I always prefer as few rules as possible too 😆

Yes, it would be nice to have as few rules as possible to make it easier for people to post.
I hope we can get enough people to hold a contest... truth be told, I have very few ideas on how to get people to come. I'm trying to build a place first🐤
Anyway, thanks for your ideas!

It’s tricky. Let me know if you want to organize a meet up sometime in the fall 😃 I know 3 or 4 other foreigners living in Japan. Maybe we can all invite our Japanese friends and see what happens
