Another potential side hustle
Hello everyone!
Yesterday I talked about my search for a side hustle and the idea of starting a job board. Qlthough I came to the conclusion that I lack most of the skills so I will just skip the idea as I don't have the intention to improve my coding and/or marketing skills that much. I know, it could be considered as a lost opportunity, but hey, I will continue my search for another side hustle.
Another idea I got out of my search on reddit, is: Flipping items. Yes, 'just' buy low, sell high. It doesn't seem to be that hard, but for all of you who have tried to utilize this pronciple to stocks or crypto, you know it's harder than it sounds. There are a couple of questions which need to be answered: which items should be bought, where could you sell them and what are the pitfalls to be sure to not end up with plenty of useless stuff you don't need yourself.
Where to buy these items is an easy one. I will go to a nearby thriftshop to see if I would be able to buy some stuff. I would limit myself to just a couple of items to just try out the idea. If I could score a couple of bucks of gains. I would already be happy. The closest thriftstore is about 10 minutes drive away. So that's definitely not too far. Another option I could look into are yardsales. Every year there are a couple of yard sales in the nearby towns, so that's another possibility. The ease of the thriftshop is that it's open nearly the whole week while the yard sales are only held a couple of times in a year. But personally I think these yardsalds could have the brightest diamonds which could yield higher potential profits. We'll see how it goes though.
The next question is where to sell the stuff. Well in Belgium, I would say that facebook marketplace and 2ehands.be are the biggest second hand online market places, so I would go for these channels. I don't know if you have ever utilized such platforms but you usually get quite some reaction, depending on the listed object, so be prepared to answer a lot of questionw. Yes, even questions which are answered in your marketplace announcement.. Ofcourse having plenty of questions explains that there is interest for your object, so it's a good thing.
Talking about pitfalls, I would say, be prepared for potential scams. When people wang to pay through strange payment providers, it's a scam. When people tell you to click on q certain link to be able to receive the money, it's a scam. As always, when something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
Opposed to creating a job board, I think flipping items could be a good source of some extra income. It won't be huge but to me, it sounds fun and with a limited effort and risks to realize.
I am off to the thriftstore, thanks for stopping by!
