Metal detecting is a lot of fun, but an expensive hobby. I think my last detector was about $3K! But it can detect gold nuggets as small as 0.1 grams. But on beaches you can sometimes get lucky finding lost jewelry, but the downside is there are lots of old beer cans too!

Yeah, I remember my grandparents had one and I did a bit of detecting at one of the beaches along Lake Huron. I didn't find anything, but it was fun to finally get to use one. It's awesome how good they have gotten!

There are some really nice ones that are $5K, but you have to be a serious weekend warrior to put that kind of money into it! They can tell you what type of metal is down there and how deep, many are submersible so they can be use underwater up to a certain depth. There are some really cool detectors...
