Chapter 4: The First Doubts

The wind howled over Aethra, carrying with it the whispers of a world in transition. In the high spheres of the Council, Solis Vay walked slowly along the suspended walkways of the celestial palace, his gaze lost in the lights of the firmament. The stars twinkled like silent witnesses to the upheavals that lay ahead.

Since the introduction of the SECRET, something invisible yet tangible had shifted in the balance of the Five Kingdoms. Officially, everything seemed to be proceeding as usual: preparations for the vote were advancing, leaders' speeches followed one another, and alliances were forming on the surface. Yet beneath this façade, an insidious force was eroding the very foundations of the world. Rumors spread, minds grew restless, and a silent tension hung in the air.

Solis Vay had received several troubling reports. Transactions in SECRET already exceeded those conducted with Aethra's traditional currencies. Some merchants had begun refusing the old currency, preferring the stability and discretion provided by this new form of exchange. Markets, once regulated and transparent, were becoming opaque labyrinths where the rules seemed to rewrite themselves at every turn.

Worse still, several of his closest advisors had changed their behavior. Once fervent defenders of Aethra’s founding principles, they now praised the merits of a market freed from old constraints, where individual will would surpass collective decisions. Their speeches, once filled with wisdom and caution, were now tinged with a devouring ambition. Solis Vay no longer recognized those he had long considered allies.

Solis Vay stopped abruptly, his gaze fixed on the horizon. Clouds were gathering in the west, perhaps heralding a storm.

— Who is pulling the strings of all this? he murmured, his voice almost carried away by the wind.

A faint noise sounded behind him. A hooded figure advanced slowly along the walkway, their steps barely echoing on the polished metal.

— Grand Architect, said the hushed voice of a Council messenger. A representative from Nyx-Vega requests an audience. He claims to have information about… an invisible threat.

Solis Vay turned, intrigued. Nyx-Vega, one of the most mysterious and isolated Kingdoms, had never been known for diplomatic initiatives. What could they possibly want?

— Let him in immediately, he ordered, sensing that the answers to his questions might be within reach.

The messenger bowed and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Solis Vay alone with his thoughts. The palace lights shimmered around him, but they now seemed cold and distant. One question echoed in his mind, insistent and relentless: how deeply had this invisible threat already infiltrated?

As he awaited the representative's arrival, Solis Vay felt a shiver run down his spine. The wind, once a bearer of promises, now seemed laden with warnings. The Five Kingdoms stood at a crossroads, and every decision, every word, every alliance could determine their fate.

But in the shadows, someone or something was manipulating events, and Solis Vay knew he had to act quickly before the very foundations of Aethra crumbled completely.

Chapitre 4 : Les Premiers Doutes

Le vent soufflait fort sur Aethra, portant avec lui les murmures d’un monde en transition. Dans les hautes sphères du Conseil, Solis Vay marchait lentement sur les passerelles suspendues du palais céleste, son regard perdu dans les lumières du firmament. Les étoiles scintillaient comme des témoins silencieux des bouleversements qui s’annonçaient.

Depuis l’introduction du SECRET, quelque chose d’invisible mais tangible avait changé dans l’équilibre des Cinq Royaumes. Officiellement, tout semblait suivre son cours : les préparatifs du vote avançaient, les discours des dirigeants se succédaient, et les alliances se formaient en surface. Pourtant, sous cette façade, une force insidieuse rongeait les fondations mêmes du monde. Les rumeurs circulaient, les esprits s’agitaient, et une tension sourde planait dans l’air.

Solis Vay avait reçu plusieurs rapports troublants. Les transactions en SECRET dépassaient déjà celles effectuées avec les monnaies traditionnelles d’Aethra. Certains marchands avaient commencé à refuser l’ancienne devise, préférant la stabilité et la discrétion que leur apportait cette nouvelle forme d’échange. Les marchés, autrefois régulés et transparents, devenaient des labyrinthes opaques où les règles semblaient se réécrire à chaque instant.

Pire encore, plusieurs de ses plus proches conseillers avaient changé de comportement. Jadis fervents défenseurs des principes fondateurs d’Aethra, ils vantaient maintenant les mérites d’un marché libéré des anciennes contraintes, où la volonté individuelle surpasserait les décisions collectives. Leurs discours, autrefois empreints de sagesse et de prudence, étaient désormais teintés d’une ambition dévorante. Solis Vay ne reconnaissait plus ceux qu’il considérait comme des alliés de longue date.

Solis Vay s’arrêta net, le regard fixé sur l’horizon. Les nuages s’amoncelaient à l’ouest, annonçant peut-être une tempête.

— Qui tire les ficelles de tout cela ? murmura-t-il, sa voix presque emportée par le vent.

Un bruit discret se fit entendre derrière lui. Une silhouette encapuchonnée s’avança lentement sur la passerelle, ses pas légers résonnant à peine sur le métal poli.

— Grand Architecte, dit la voix feutrée d’un messager du Conseil. Un représentant de Nyx-Vega demande audience. Il dit posséder des informations sur… une menace invisible.

Solis Vay se retourna, intrigué. Nyx-Vega, l’un des Royaumes les plus mystérieux et isolés, n’avait jamais été connu pour ses initiatives diplomatiques. Que pouvait-il bien vouloir ?

— Faites-le entrer immédiatement, ordonna-t-il, sentant que les réponses à ses questions se trouvaient peut-être à portée de main.

Le messager s’inclina et disparut dans l’ombre, laissant Solis Vay seul avec ses pensées. Les lumières du palais scintillaient autour de lui, mais elles semblaient désormais froides et lointaines. Une question tournait dans son esprit, insistant et lancinante : jusqu’où cette menace invisible s’était-elle déjà infiltrée ?

Alors qu’il attendait l’arrivée du représentant, Solis Vay sentit un frisson lui parcourir l’échine. Le vent, autrefois porteur de promesses, semblait maintenant chargé d’avertissements. Les Cinq Royaumes étaient à un carrefour, et chaque décision, chaque mot, chaque alliance pourrait déterminer leur destinée.

Mais dans l’ombre, quelqu’un ou quelque chose manipulait les événements, et Solis Vay savait qu’il devait agir vite avant que les fondations d’Aethra ne s’effondrent complètement .
