Have you tried adding any graphics mod to make the game prettier? If you are playing it offline it really makes the experience much nicer.

I played with some graphical mods and assets back in time when I was playing a single-player mode. This one is a free server hosted on-site. I have to look at the settings to add server-side mods. But one of the limitations of this server is you can increase the chunk view distance over 10 chunks. Pretty limiting but still a fun and easy option to play with your friends.
