ATLUS Finally Learned What Other Publishers Have Realized a Decade Ago

in Hive Gaming4 years ago

*So, a few months ago, ATLUS released Persona 4 Golden to PC via Steam. It was a huge deal not only because it was one of the most popular games by the publisher, but because the series was originally exclusive to PlayStation platforms.

The PC port of Persona 4 Golden was a huge success. At 500K copies sold, the game already broke its life-time PS Vita numbers. Selling almost half the combined PS2/PS Vita versions of the game in only one month!

This week, SEGA (ATLUS current parent company) announced via Q&A with one of their investors (it's in Japanese but here's my source) how they are willing to port more titles to PC platform, stating that Persona 4 Golden surpassed their expectations with its sales.

In the future, we would like to proactively pursue porting previously released titles onto Steam and other new platforms. Furthermore, regarding new games in the future, we will negotiate with the platform holders and examine different methods of selling each title case-by-case under favorable conditions.

I couldn't be happier about this. I expected this to happen when Persona 4 actually appeared on Steam, but to hear it from SEGA themselves is reassuring!

Their statement doesn't only suggest more ports of older games (which itself almost confirms Persona 3 for PC,) it also implies that they're going to consider PC ports of each game they release from now on. Each game! We probably still gonna see timed exclusives, but at least this increases the chances of each ATLUS game getting a PC version down the line, which before 2020 was only a dream from the fans.

There are many games from ATLUS I would like to see on PC. Mainly Persona 3 and P5 Royal, but also Devil Survivor and maybe Etrian Odyssey franchise if they could make mapping work with Keyboard/Mouse controls. Oh, and those are just ATLUS games! Since the announcement came from SEGA, I could see more games from them as well, even though they already have a good selection on PC already, and I suspect that SEGA is the reason Persona 4 Golden is on PC in the first place.

What do you think?

Some of the games coming out on PC now seem like we're moving backwards. When is the new and epic version of WoW going to come out!

You mean less quality? Or that's there are more ports than new games?

That's great to hear! PC ports becoming more accepted by these more console-focused companies is shaping up to a more accessible future!

Also...

proactively pursue porting previously

What alliteration-addict wrote that line x^P

That line was great right? They must have hired the right people to answer for them! (Or translators as the original Q&A was in Japanese.)
