Was the last headline at washington post online. When I read this - I was wondering how long this has been going on already.

"Riot Games stimmt zu, 100 Millionen Dollar für eine Sammelklage wegen geschlechtsspezifischer Diskriminierung zu zahlen"
So lautete die letzte Schlagzeile in der Washington Post online. Als ich das gelesen habe, habe ich mich gefragt, wie lange das schon so geht...

"We appreciate Riot’s introspection and work since 2018 toward becoming a more diverse and inclusive company.” Eh, excuse me sir but Riot games was founded in 2006 and it was 2010 when I touched the top of the iceberg with league of legends. So you are telling me sexism has only been a problem since 2018 in the company? Or is washington post saying that rito is investigating it's own toxic company culture since 2018? which sounds more likely... What happend to the years in between? Teemo ate it?

Literally every gamer knows that league of legends has one of the most toxic communities in gaming ever. Eventhough the game didn't start with that toxic community in the beginning. They somehow recruited and cultivated that toxic, sexist and really repelling culture in over a decade. That's why I quit league in 2014 and meanwhile only play the mobile version. Obviously people can't type yet on their mobile phones which makes game usually less toxic. 🤣 I am no psychologist, but how can the community that plays the games be so different from the ones who create it? It's kinda a mirror of the corporate culture itself, isn't it?

Buchstäblich jeder Gamer weiß, dass League of Legends eine der toxischsten Communitys in der Gaming-Welt hat. Auch wenn das Spiel nicht von Anfang an mit dieser toxischen Community begonnen hat. Irgendwie haben sie diese toxische, sexistische und wirklich abstoßende Kultur in über einem Jahrzehnt rekrutiert und kultiviert. Deshalb bin ich 2014 aus der Liga ausgestiegen und spiele inzwischen nur noch die mobile Version. Offensichtlich können die Leute auf ihren Handys noch nicht tippen, was das Spiel normalerweise weniger toxisch macht. 🤣 Ich bin kein Psychologe, aber wie kann sich die Gemeinschaft, die die Spiele spielt, so sehr von denen unterscheiden, die sie erschaffen? Es ist irgendwie ein Spiegel der Unternehmenskultur selbst, nicht wahr?

Well a little deeper into the article shows that 2,300 workers are eligible for part of the $80 million settlement (the other $20 Mio are fees for the lawsuit), which makes a count of 34k average per head.

Wenn man sich den Artikel etwas genauer ansieht, stellt man fest, dass 2.300 Beschäftigte Anspruch auf einen Teil der 80 Millionen Dollar Abfindung haben (die anderen 20 Millionen Dollar sind Gebühren für den Rechtsstreit), was eine durchschnittliche Anzahl von 34.000 pro Kopf ergibt.

The more I read into that topic, I can only clap hands over my head and shake it hard. I am glad, that I didn't end up with riot games as employer. Sometimes young people's dreams are used and abused in such a distateful manner. There is a trail and history of Racism, misogyny, death threats against women and worse in the video game industry. Riot is no excemption. It is sad that an expose on Kotaku was necessary to shed light on the darkness of the gaming business world, even though it is already very obvious and public. And it is a farce that the CEO Nicholas Laurent stays in his position, as accused but not convincted for sexual harrasement.

Je mehr ich mich in dieses Thema einlese, desto mehr kann ich nur noch die Hände über dem Kopf zusammenschlagen und kräftig schütteln. Ich bin froh, dass ich nicht bei "Krawallspielen" (ein Hoch auf diese Übersetzung) als Arbeitgeber gelandet bin. Manchmal werden die Träume junger Menschen auf so abscheuliche Art und Weise benutzt und missbraucht. In der Videospielindustrie gibt es eine lange Geschichte von Rassismus, Frauenfeindlichkeit, Morddrohungen gegen Frauen und Schlimmerem. Riot ist da keine Ausnahme. Es ist traurig, dass eine Enthüllung auf Kotaku nötig war, um Licht in die Dunkelheit der Spielebranche zu bringen, auch wenn diese bereits sehr offensichtlich und öffentlich ist. Und es ist eine Farce, dass der CEO Nicholas Laurent in seiner Position bleibt, obwohl er wegen sexueller Belästigung angeklagt, aber nicht verurteilt wurde.

It will also englight why the "bro-culture" is actually a career blockade for females in the gaming industry, which most guys sees as their "bro-code" and consider it no harm.
