The premise and visual style of Panzer Paladin feels lifted from a cult classic retro play from the early 90's. As a dashing Android Flame woman, you are tasked with fighting a large race of bloodthirsty and war-thirsty monstrous interstellar creatures called the Ravenous.
Story
The giant weapons of the sword, the tomba, the hammer came from the depths of the dark, blazing across the sky and penetrating historical locations around the world. Like the declaration of war against mankind, the Parthenon, on top of the Acropolis of Athens, first had to be cut by an unpleasant knife. After the collision, each weapon opened a gap in the fabric of reality and unleashed a legion of colossal demons.
In anticipation of unexpected Earth-threatening events, the International Security Council has formed the Gauntlet, a science committee that develops highly sophisticated defense technology. The gauntlet discovered that the inhabitants of the Netherworld could only be annihilated with their own weapons. Spirit weapons are forged with the spirits of the dead and humans cannot mess with them without becoming corrupt by their rotten power.
However, a machine will be immune to demon attacks. The gauntlet reactivates Flame, a former member of the android rescue operation, to become a Squire and takes control of the last remaining Paladin unit, a powerful armor capable of wielding Spirit Weapons.
Gameplay
One of the fun aspects of the game is waiting for your weapon to nearly break, and then triggering its special effect by destroying it yourself. Get everything from increased endurance to long-range explosions. This same weapon initially triggers an increase in your paladin's health, although this maximum number comes out fairly early in the game.
You're also can lookout for new weapons for your mechanical warrior, usually in the form of swords, spears and hammers. These weapons degrade with use, but you rarely want a choice, each of which is abundant in your inventory, and can be equipped at any time.
Levels are carefully designed, with lots of clever enemy placements to challenge your dexterity and observation skills. And combat which focuses mostly on close range is very easy and interesting. Arm-mounted shields allow you to block multiple attacks if you see the trajectory of entry. The back dash button demands mastery when you face tougher bosses. Weapons are abundant in the levels, so you are encouraged to use them as much as possible.
For control in this game incredibly smooth makes movement and combat a consistent pleasure, even in the platforming challenges mentioned above. Each level in the game has a different look and theme in it. Panzer Paladin delivers solid platforming action, great gun duels, epic boss fights.
