We all have heard that the end of the world is coming and that it would be due to the destruction of our planet thanks to a meteor, the extinction of humanity by some type of virus or perhaps that robots kill all humanity and dominate the world. In short, there are a lot of ways to theorize how the end of the world would happen as much as we know it, even in a possible end of the world the human race could be totally or only partially extinct, and this is the case that we will witness in this wonderful videogame.
Horizon Zero Dawn was a Sony IP developed by Guerrillas Games that ended up arriving on Playstation 4 during the first quarter of 2017, after several years there were plans to launch a PC version that finally ended up coming out in August 2020, although it has several errors and problems if we compare it with its ps4 version, most of these errors are being solved as soon as possible by Guerrilla Games.
Horizon Zero Dawn is set in quite distant times, since it shows us how the planet would be in the year 3040 after a disaster of great magnitude has occurred even without being known, this great disaster has apparently extinguished much of the Humanity and those who are still alive organized to create different tribes with their own customs and religious beliefs. The main tribes in this story are the Carja, the Oseram and the Nora. However, something that is quite clear to us from the beginning of the game is that we are not the only inhabitants on the planet since there are gigantic machines capable of attempting with our lives, and although the tribes coexist with these machines, some decide to hunt them to Obtain valuable artifacts, while others only destroy them to survive, as some of these machines pose a great danger to the inhabitants of the tribes.
Our protagonist Aloy belongs to one of the best tribes, The Nora. However, not everything is easy for Aloy since for unknown reasons she is an outcast and is treated with contempt by the entire tribe, no one can interact with her and whoever does so can be severely punished for breaking the rules, there is discriminatory treatment given to her without even knowing why, so she decides to be trained by Rost, another outcast who has served as Aloy's adoptive father for all these years, with the training it will be possible to pass a test to unravel the mysteries of the past of our protagonist.
In fairly generic terms we are facing an open world video game in 3D, in which we can control our protagonist Aloy, with whom we can run, jump, walk, swim, but mainly hunting machines is what we will do most in this game and it is great since it has very entertaining and interesting playable mechanics.
In Horizon Zero Dawn there are many different types of machines, among which we will find Watchers, Gallopers, Corrupters, Serrated Teeth, Longlegs and many others, and this is where the interesting thing comes in, each machine cannot be destroyed efficiently with a single method, which will make us think about what weapon we have to use depending on the skills and attributes of each of these machines, we can use from simple lances for melee attacks, stunners to set electrical traps to powerful machines and leave them incapacitated for a while to be able to attack them, we can also use the rope launcher to make some machines fall and show us their valuable pieces, in the same way we will also have a bow to carry out attacks from a distance, but we will not need to do everything blindly, since Aloy will have a kind of viewer capable of identifying the weak points of the machines in order to know where our attacks are most efficient. We must always remember is that each machine is different and not only in its weak points, but also in the attacks it carries out, in its life, level of danger and even in the sounds it makes.
Without a doubt, Horizon Zero Dawn graphically seeks to appear as realistic as possible in the modeling of characters and scenarios since they are recreated with too much detail from the shadows to the lighting, so we will enjoy a video game with a high quality of quite realistic graphics, there are also small details such as stepping on a pool of water and seeing the waves that are formed, as well as seeing the deformation effect that our footsteps produce when being in quite snowy scenarios.
I mentioned that Horizon Zero Dawn seeks to appear very realistic in the graphic section, it also tries to do it in its soundtrack, each machine has a different sound to be able to identify them one from the other, and as if that were not enough, it has the appropriate musical tracks for all kinds of scenes, whether they are action, sadness, courage, happiness, fear, all emotions and feelings are represented musically in this video game, making our adventure more immersive when playing.
In summary, Horizon Zero Dawn looks for realism in terms of graphics and music, something that comes out quite well, since it managed to consolidate itself as a very sold game in 2017 that even ended up having a version for PC, but the only thing to highlight It is not that, but also its story that was created to always keep us expectant of what could happen and not get bored of it, while the gameplay is very well thought out since when hunting machines we will notice that we cannot hunt all of the same form, unless we want to be killed, which makes the challenge for the player greater and he can maintain interest in us without much difficulty.
I was thinking about getting it... still need to watch more of the current state. I am about to upgrade from my current AMD setup, so, not sure when to get this one to enjoy it yet.
Have you played it already? On wich platforms?
I recommend you to play it, it´s an awesome game! I played it on my PC, it had framedrops to me sometimes but nothing serious.
Does an old 580X deal with this at 1080p for now? I wanna jump to the 2K at least zone... 4K is still overrated in my view. But because wide screens are very attractive, I am probably going to do the deal of jumping to 2K and punch the GPU up to the almost the max (this means a 6000's series AMD most likely).
Either way, thanks for the info. I did planned on buying this one eventually. Have to check it out and put it on my list.
Yeah, I know what you mean, people getting excited for the 4K thing and I can´t see why, I think it´s kinda overrated too. I think with a 580X should run well at 1080p.
Interesting!
Thank you for taking your time and passing by!
