During the short time I have been writing my thoughts and talking about relevant topics, at least I think so, in Hive I have not given myself enough time to think about a very important section in video games; and it is with the passage of time is a topic that has taken more relevance and that every time we see them more and more marked. For the times we live in, and since always, it is important to send a good impression at first sight when it comes to selling a product by highlighting the best features of the product. The graphics of a video game, although they are not the most important thing, is a vital part and talking a little about them is interesting, more than I thought.
The importance of graphics is given to each one as they think they deserve it, but I am sure of one thing, and that is that whether they want to or not, now, they are an important part since we are running in times where it has to look good to be good (which is an opinion that I do not share). A video game stands out and is well received by how game-like it is and if it fulfills its objective whether it is to entertain or provide an experience a little different from what we are used to. Also a bit of a cinematic aspect but that's a topic for another time.
I think all human beings buy something because it can be useful or we need it, but to have a prior interest in that "something" we first see it and if it manages to capture our attention we decide to know more about that "something", well with video games is the same. Now we are first interested in a game by how it looks, yes it is true that factors such as the type of game and its mechanics affect, but the graphics also take a bit of prominence, because I do not think games like God of War of 2018 and Resident Evil 2 Remake have been so good with lousy graphics.
Graphics are important and have a more prominent role in recent years but whether a game is good or bad is not your decision. Just take a look at the past, good games did not stand out for their graphics but for their mechanics and what they proposed, but as the years went by, so did the technology and the ideology of the players regarding this thought. Each launch of a new console meant the improvement in all aspects of a game and little by little more importance was given to the graphics, to the point that I once heard the phrase "if it doesn't have good graphics I'm not interested". Slient Hill and Metal Gear Solid don't have the best graphics and yet they are very good games.
Giving it importance is good, but how it looks does not determine how good it is.
It is clear and evident the evolution that graphics have had throughout history, from being an accumulation of six pixels to an approximation to real life, and I don't think it's bad, because everything evolves, but this makes me wonder, is it really necessary so much realism for a video game? To answer this question we would have to take into account other factors that influence what "realism" refers to, and the simple fact that it looks good seems to me great but not so convincing.
Let's see, with the trailer for the new video game of The Matrix: Awakens, which looks phenomenal on an audiovisual level, I can't help but think about how good a VIDEO GAME it will be, because it's one thing to look good and another to be good, if you don't believe me just look at the opinions about The Order 1886. This is where I would like to stop and think, "graphics, they are not everything but without them it wouldn't be the same".
What makes a video game good? It's certainly not its visuals, although it has an influence, but it's definitely not. In my opinion the graphics bring a different feeling to each video game, since I wouldn't have taken The Last of Us in the same way if its graphics were in the style of Bordelands, just to use an example. At the end of the day we all have different thoughts and I would like to know what you think about this topic. See you next time.

For me, personally, graphics are not the be-all end-all when it comes to videogames. Of course if I play something that looks beautiful and amazing, I'm going to appreciate the graphics and probably take a lot of screenshots and admire the game... but if the gameplay is bad, the story is boring, or there isn't much to do... well, I'm going to close it. I also play a lot of older games, and also pixel games, and find them more enjoyable than most realistic-looking games.
With Borderlands, I could barely play it because of the stylised graphics. I found it difficult to differentiate between the landscape and the enemies and I found it hard to play because of that. But also, as you say, if the Last of Us was created with Borderlands graphics, not only would it look terrible, the story most certainly would not have the same impact.
Oddly enough I also have a taste for pixel games, from 20 or 10 years ago. Many times I am entertained and enjoy a pixel video game with good gameplay, and even if they don't tell a super developed story, I still appreciate it. Thanks for reading, greetings
I always look for better graphics in video games and I like better graphics from my early age.

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 50/90) Liquid rewards.
That's great, but I'd recommend you try games that aren't high on graphics but deliver on everything else. Regards, thanks for the support
Thanks for the recommendation.
