This is a Review of the game Final Fantasy XV. The game is available on the PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. Final fantasy xv is an action role-playing game developed by Square Enix. You play as Noctis a royal on a road trip with his free friends to the capital city of Accordo where he is due to wed Luna Freya. Let's just say things don't go according to plan and Noctis and co have to go on an epic journey across foreign lands to uncover the royal arms and overthrow the villains of the peace.
What is the game like to play
You start out with your car breaking down then you'll have a few basic quests to get you in the swing of things. The game world is large and colorful but thankfully you do have the car to get around. But in the beginning, you can't drive it which is a really bad decision but thankfully later on that changes. Also, you can alter the car over time to customize it with skins and other features and it's quite a nice thing to just cruise around the game world taking in the views. The game has a day-night cycle and you can visit rest stops at night and the nights do get more dangerous.
You can cook, learn new recipes, as you find ingredients in the wild, or try dishes at the local diners. You can visit the Chocobo farm to go fishing at the lake or just explore and hunt wild creatures to gain experience and level up. But for me it's the combat that really steals the show in terms of enjoyment no longer are you stuck in a turn-based affair the combat is real-time and it has a more hack-and-slash feel to it you can use various weapons, spells, items, and you can also call upon your friends to help. Snd some of the battles are epic including some exhilarating boss fights that go on for a long time. You can hunt large creatures in the wild as you progress and I'd say the main quest is good enough to keep you interested as well as all the side quests there's plenty to do and the combat is a lot more fun it's a lot less stuffy than it used to be.
Graphically, the game looks fantastic with amazing detail on the characters and the environments. As with all the final fantasy games, the technical performance was very good and I did not experience any glitches at all. The audio in the game is, without doubt, the worst part of the experience though whether it be the cringe-inducing choice of songs for the official soundtrack or the cheap stereotypical music used in villages and towns these things really bring down the overall enjoyment and I really felt they didn't suit the action. But by far the biggest audio issue is the voice actors not that they aren't good voice actors but it's the voices they chose for the characters themselves literally none of the voices suit the characters and it's truly remarkable that they've managed.
What's Good and What's Bad
What's good: It's a stunning game visually. The combat is fast and a great improvement for the series there are lots of small side quests to keep you busy as well as side activities like cooking and fishing and the off-road car make traveling around a lot less tedious than the chauffeur driving in the early game. What's bad: It can be a bit long-winded and takes a little while to get going. The audio quite frankly is appalling and terrible music choices and it has a very low budget feel in the ambient music. And the voice actors don't sue the characters at all which makes the dialogue quite jarring.
What is the Verdict
Final Fantasy XV is a solid open world adventure game with RPG elements. Fun combat and lots of quirky features you'd expect from a final fantasy game. It's a great world to explore looks fantastic but the game audio is a real disappointment it's not the best game in the series but it's definitely a change of direction as it seems to be trying to gain new fans with a more western style of approach. But ultimately it's still very much a jRPG and feels like you're part of a posh japanese boy band on a road trip stag do. So, it's fun but it does have limitations but i would say it's definitely worth playing and it's got plenty of charm and it's a decent-sized game so you're going to get good value for money.
