OMG.. it dawned on me yesterday that Crownrend seemed so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. The entire premise of a browser based game where you have a Kingdom and you train up a army with Attack or Defense stats and you have to go raid other Kingdoms to loot their resources. I knew I played a game like this before back in High School days (mid 00's) and spent way too much time playing it.
Well after some internet searching I found it! Dark Throne. Unfortunately DarkThrone went dark around 2020 because the website owners stated it wasn't cost beneficial anymore and they had to shut it down.
If any of you remember, this was the home screen that hits me like a ton of Nostalgia bricks.
It's almost impossible to get screenshots of the actual game nowadays (I even tried the wayback machine)
Here is the main screen of a random player who I found posted a screenshot from years ago:
Here is a screenshot from Dark Throne after successfully attacking someone.
Please tell me I am not the only one who remembers this game.
With my Google searching I also came across DarkThrone Reborn! Which is a project made and hosted today that is a modern day remaster/remake of the original.
Here is what the attack screen looks like on DarkThrone Reborn

So you can see that its heavily modernized but also stripped down a lot. None the less, it's the spiritual successor of the original.
BUT I say all of this because Crownrend takes both of those and brings them into the web3 space. And since I spent more hours than I care to admit playing DarkThrone... Crownrend is where I belong. You all are my people. People playing a browser based MMORPG are the people I want to hang out with.
So without further ado let's get into Crownrend, shall we?
I have been thinking a lot about this game and my strategy in it. Do I go 100% offense or 100% defense? Do I even care about Critical hits or Interceptions?
I have been trying to track down some more info on the game (not strategy but just whitepaper type info) and I have learned that the Kingdoms you see in the Battle Hall or only players within your "range". What the range is, I do not know. I know that super high level players will not show up for me or maybe even super low players. So something to keep in mind.
I also know there isn't a shield timer after you get attacked. Meaning if I get attacked by someone, then someone else could very easily attack me right after. So you could lose a lot of DENAR back to back to back.
I have noticed the Battle Hall seems to auto update every 10 seconds or so as well.
But let's get back to strategy then shall we?
You can claim your DENAR every 4 hours and you get 8 Charges to attack with. My current strategy (subject to change lol) is to wait until I am able to claim my DENAR then use my attacks up to increase my unclaimed DENAR then claim them all really quickly.
I make 0.000150 DENAR/second
or 0.009 DENAR/minute
or 0.539999 DENAR/hour
or 2.16 DENAR/every 4 hours
I have been keeping an eye on the Battle Hall throughout the day and it seems like ~2.4 DENAR is as high as the unclaimed balance gets before people attack them and they move down the list.
But also I am seeing that almost everyone has at least a 4 Defense and seeing as though I have a army strength of 3 I need to only pick battles with people who have a Defense of 3.
So I scroll down a little ways until I see a couple Kingdoms with a 3 Defense and lower Attack strength.
Those 4 highlighted in White are easy hits. So I hit those and then as quickly as I can scroll up to the top and claim my DENAR.
Wait 4 hours and rinse and repeat.
I decided to start to deter more attackers I should up my Defense so
I upgraded to 4 Defense. With 2.1 DENAR still here and maybe another 2.1 in 4 hours I still got a ways to go to upgrading my defense again. But by the end of today we should be up to Defense of 5.
I do wish that there was more to do in the game itself then just wait every 4 hours. But I guess that will come with time as I build up my Denar and am able to buy chests and have items and do all that stuff.
So far I am hooked on this game and I love the simplicity but also strategy of it.
Nice work in a couple of days!
Dark Throne is not a game I had come across but it looks like if Crownrend goes in that direction we will have a good game coming
yeah, DarkThrone was soo much fun because there was so many more layers to the game.
You would get citizens every so often and you had to decide to train them as attackers, defenders, bankers (passive income), spies (could sabotage people before you attacked them and find out what their defense strength was).
I really really hope Crownrend keeps on building and getting better and better!
I put a suggestion in discord about possibly using spies in the future to increase chances of interception, definitely lots of potential
You are way ahead of me! I like you :)
