The Problem with Premium Vehicles in War Thunder

You want to get to top tier without grinding for the next two years? No problem. Here’s a premium jet for $60. Sounds great, right? Pay up, skip the grind, and start having fun. Except there’s a massive issue: it’s a scam—not just for you, but for every other player in the match.

Let me break it down with my first premium jet: the MiG-SPSK.

At first, I thought it was a solid pick. It’s got two great missiles for its rank. But then I realized it comes with massive drawbacks. Want countermeasures? You’ll have to ditch the main gun. So there I was, flying a premium jet with zero experience in jet combat, forced to choose between getting annihilated by missiles or flying like an idiot without the tools I needed to survive.

And here’s the kicker: even if you grab the best premium jet in the game, like the F-5C, you’re still getting absolutely destroyed by experienced players like me. I can’t even count the number of times my own team has fallen apart within the first five minutes because new players just don’t know what they’re doing.

This game design completely screws over everyone. New players have no clue how to play at top tier, so they stop trying. It’s not about outplaying your opponent anymore—it’s about bombing bases or farming bots because one-on-one fights feel pointless.

Your team is missing critical players at the start who know how to win, and when enough bots are killed or bombs dropped, the round ends. Whether you win or lose feels like a gamble, regardless of your effort or skill.

By the time you take off for the second time—or if you’re still locked in combat—it doesn’t matter how skilled you are. The round ends. You’re punished for not hunting down clueless new players, and the whole experience feels like a waste of time.

And that’s the brutal truth about Air RB right now. Every top-tier premium vehicle Gaijin sells drags everyone down with it.

Look, I get it. Gaijin needs to make money. People want to fly cool jets without grinding forever. And experienced players like me? We want intense battles, not this chaos. But the current system is absolutely insane, and it’s killing the game.

I don’t have a solution that makes everyone happy, but I know this much—what we’ve got right now is a disaster.
