1915 - The RMS Lusitania is sunk by a German U-boat killing 1,198 people and prompting the American entry into WWI

1945 - The end of WWII in Europe as Allies accept unconditional surrender of all German forces at Reims, France

1997 - One of my favorite movies of all time The Fifth Element premieres, starring Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich and Gary Oldman
