Welcome to Night City

The day has finally arrived, Cyberpunk 2077 has released worldwide. After what seemed like an eternity waiting for Cyberpunk 2077 to finish being developed, we can finally dive into Night City.

I can remember back in January 2014 when the original teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 from CD Projekt Red was first revealed to the world:

The teaser showed so little, but the aesthetic and the fact that such a reputable studio was working on a new project had everyone excited.

It wasn’t until May 18, 2015 that CDPR would release one of my favorite games of all time The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. That game released during a period where I wasn’t gaming that much, but I can still remember enjoying the tales that title told. The side missions alone were so memorable that I can tell you the exact story of what was happening whenever I last played it many years ago.

It was this promise for gripping stories and an environment set in a futuristic open world that solidified my long-term interest in Cyberpunk 2077. Fast forward to today and we have the launch trailer to compare to the original teaser:

Set out as a cybernetically-enhanced urban mercenary and build your very own legend on the mean streets of Night City – a sprawling megalopolis built on grit, glamor and corruption. Just be ready to think fast – the choices you make will shape the story and the world around you.

Starting my first life path

Or so I thought. Yesterday was a crazy maze of events when it came to this game. I preordered a physical copy on Wal-Mart.com for $10 off at the price of $50. The shipment was delayed by Fed-Ex and isn’t planned to arrive until Friday evening.

I found out that the game would be available digitally at 7pm on Wednesday. There was no way in hell I was going to wait two extra days to play, so I went ahead and paid the full $60 price for the digital version on my PS5. Then I was greater by a giant download over 100gb.

Once the download was complete, my banner was saying that I couldn’t play until midnight. I tried changing my time zone to New Zealand and it still didn’t alter the situation. So I was stuck not being able to play until past my normal bedtime. I decided to not stay up all night since I worked early the next morning. So I am not playing CyberPunk 2077 for the first time until Thursday, after work.

I have everything downloaded, my free goodies claimed from GOG.com, and I’m sitting at the new game screen in rest mode that way I can jump in to start as soon as I’m home from work.

No PS5 version yet

It kind of sucks that I will be playing the last-gen version for a few months until the release the free upgrade to next-gen. No official date on that yet, so hopefully this one runs smooth. By the time the next gen- update comes out, I’m sure most of the bugs will be ironed out and hopefully it will be running at 4K 60fps minimum on my PS5.

I will claim the platinum trophy... eventually

Despite there already being a Cyberpunk 2077 Trophy Guide, I am in no rush getting the platinum. I want to enjoy my first life path and do everything the game has to offer wit it any restrictions. Then I will start a second and third life path to clean up everything that I missed.

I believe I am going to start my first play through as a Street Kid and female. I will then do Corpo and Nomad and try at least one male character. The character customization is something I really am looking forward to here. That and the vehicles, I’m seriously just so hyped to experience all there is in Cyberpunk 2077.

I will for sure be sharing all sorts of cool stuff here on my blog. The photo mode looks especially impressive, so expect to see me talking a lot about this game. I hope you will join me for the ride.

I appreciate you stopping by my blog

Cyberpunk 2077 has a great chance of winning game of the year next year. I don’t think it really qualifies for 2020 awards since the year is about over. We will let Ghost of Tsushima have 2020, it was well deserved.

Now time for me to go from one amazing game to another. Big thanks to CD Projekt Red for finally delivering!

As I type this last sentence I am officially starting Cyberpunk 2077 on my PS5.

Sort:

This is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

Loving it so far. Nearly finished with the tutorial. I can only imagine how great it's going to be once I'm released into Night City.

Nice post man.
The PS5 mismatch does blow!

This game is more than just gaming IMO.
It's the digital world that emulates our material world really. Society is moving fast (already is to an extent) into dystopia. Future humans won't know or care to look for the difference between digital or material worlds.

Wired into a provider of content.
Cerebral matter knows no difference.
Contentment thus becomes the reward.
What we trade for it then... the unknown?

Thanks a lot for the comment!
Already in just a few hours of playing, I am more locked into the story than the gameplay itself. This is an easy one to feel like you are actually living as the character in-game. Making choices throughout each satiation is a lot of fun. Crazy to think that our world in 2077 could be very similar to Night City.

Ready Player One is another great example of that which you speak of.

Yeah there's so many games pushing and expanding on the industries developing in our real world. I agree that story is the truly immersive element and gaming plays a crucial role in tech and society now.

Maybe content like this has ability to drive audiences to Hive. Thanks for the recommendation of RPO. The imagery alone looks just like that future world I envision.

Seriously felt like a lifetime waiting for this damn game to come out haha! Can’t wait to play it!

It really did take quite sometime. So many awesome games have came out during the 7 years, so it hasn't been too brutal. Although there where times where I could hardly contain my hype.

Thank you for information. I have been waiting for such game for long time.

Hopefully you can find the time to play this one.

I thought there were 8 years of waiting? Anyway, I'll still have to wait until I'll afford to buy it to play, haha

Well I hope you can round up the funds for this one. It really is worth the money.

The game so interesting 👍

It truly is a modern marvel.

Lol, I wont even pay $50 for this game and you want itz so badly that you bought it twice. Awesome!

The second copy won't be a waste. I'm. It just going to keep two copies.
Must not be your type of game, I love a good RPG.

This was automated vote. I do my manual curation and voting strictly on Leofinance tribe, as I see it most promising and profitable.
I strongly invite everyone to take a look at https://leofinance.io/

I get your angle man but seen this splattered in non finance content is more a negative to LEO. It's spammy.

Would this (GAMING) content be accepted and rewarded on LEO?

That's a good question. If so I will start posting over there more. I just don't write much about finance usually so I am not active on LEO.

very much agreed... I decided i'd just start downvoting for the spam since it's the same non-helpful comment every time.

Yeah hey if leofinance.io gives a tasty reward to the comment:

@onealfa 'hook line and sinkered' me in here.

Then hey the folks should go get it!

I thought it was his own initiative he's the only one i see doing it
