High Mana Cap Melee Mayhem-based Battle Strategy

in Hive Gaming5 days ago (edited)

Hi Battle Mages, today I’m going to be sharing a card strategy I recently uncovered. As you know, splinterlands has sooo many cards that it’s impossible to know all cards. Becaue of that, we’re always adding to our decks and strategies both by experiment and by playing more battles.

I recently went cards shopping and rented some few cards to play around with. For the card I’ll be talking about in this post, I found it to be great for playing high mana cost battles with the Melee Mayhem ruleset. It revolves around Kulu Mastermind, the monster my battle yesterday was based on. I recently discovered Kulu after he was used against me in This Battle. Immediately after that Battle, I went ahead, rented me a Kulu, and tested the shit out of it.

At level 1, Kulu has a a Melee Attack of 4, and is an opportunist. This makes him a nightmake to opponents who come to battle with low health monsters. I can't imagine how deadly he is at level 4 with that rage. mmmmm. In the several rulesets and circumstances, I’ve played Kulu, I believe the types of battles it’s best suited for is high mana cap Melee Mayhem battles. But in my opinion, what makes Kulu special is his weapons training ability. He can weaponize no attack monsters next to him with Melee attack up to a maximum of 3. In the Maylee Mayhem ruleset where melee monsters can attack from any position, this will be really handy.

The strategy is about using Kulu with a high health monster like Uluni Overseer, and if possible, a tank heal. The tank will more than likely get killed soon by opponent opportunists as you’ll see in a sample battle I’ll share, but if it doesn’t, even better for you!

The strategy begins with the summoner - Cryptic. You select Cryptic for its enfeeble, retaliate and decreased enemy monster speed. If the battle is melee mayhem, your opponent is likely coming with very strong melee attackers, so you want to take advantage of enfeeble to de-buff the melee attack power, and retaliate so that You get to do as much damage as possible every time you receive damage yourself.

Let’s take a case study of my most recent battle: Melee Mayhem Ruleset, Mana Cap at 38 (not very high, but okay). Because the Mana Cap was not as high as I’d like, I wasn’t able to flex the line up as much as I wanted. Which is why I specify that Kulu is great for HIGH mana cap battles.

In first position, I put Ulundin Overseer, put Kulu behind him, and then put a tank heal next to him. I realized why the tank heal was a bad idea because my opponent had Mad Ogre there, and being an opportunist, he snuffed my tank heal out immediately. So instead of putting the tank heal, in subsequent battles like this, as an on the job-lesson well learnt, I’m going to be putting another high health (or even just somewhat moderate health) monster after Kulu. If the mana cap permits it, I’ll consider putting in a tank heal just for chance. If the mana cap is high enough, you can go ahead and something like a Grum Flameblade as tank, then followed by Ulundin.

Another essential part of the strategy is Disintegrator. Aside already having Enfeeble, this guy will help further weaken your opponent’s line up.

The interesting thing about splinterlands is that no strategy is 100% indestructible. So whiles you can be very confident about your strategy, there’s always room for limitations. What is funny is that you always believe this strategy is impenetrable.

So this is what the line up for the strategy looks like

Limitations of this strategy

If you watch the battle I used to explain the strategy to you, you’ll notice that my opponent having a monster with thorns in first position messed my melee monsters up bad. So obviously, thorns is this Achilles’ heel. If your opponent happens to come to battle with Eternal Tofu, you’re eternally fucked.

And uhh yeah, this is the strategy. Here’s a bonus for reading to this point - if you don’t know about Djinn Inferni, you should probably check him out. He’s also great for high mana cost battles.
