Having a blast
Last week, I got Elden Ring and made a post about my first impressions of the game. Since that post, I have put in around 15 more hours into playing it and trying to figure out how things work.
So far, this game has been a ton of fun. Extremely hard, but a lot of fun. The boss fights in this game are crazy. The first boss that really gave me a hard time was Godrick The Grafted at the end of Stormveil Castle. But man, this fight was amazing.
This is one of the coolest designs for a boss I think I have ever seen. He was massive and had a ton of arms coming out of his body and all sorts of weapons in his hands. About halfway through the fight, he takes a huge axe and chops off one of his hands, and then shoves it into a dead dragon's head and the dragon head becomes part of his arm and he shoots fire all over the place. It was insane.
But in the end, Godrick was no match for my glintstone pebble spell and my rock hurling spell. So many people talk shit on the magic in this game and say that if you play a caster, you won't enjoy the game, but I would beg to differ. Getting wrecked over and over trying to play a melee class in this game does not sound like a good time and it is the main reason I never got into the Souls games in the first place. I would much rather spend my time exploring and enjoying my time in the game and not getting smashed every few minutes.
This game is HUGE and there are plenty of things to die from in it, regardless of the class you play. Exploration is a huge part of the game and it is a ton of fun to just go around exploring and looking for secret dungeons.
The dragons in this game are some of the coolest looking dragons I have ever seen in a video game.
This game also has some of the coolest looking enemies that you can encounter. Like this huge head that rolls around spewing fire at you. Getting screenshots during a fight is pretty tough and I have died so many times just trying to take pictures in this game since there is no pause button or anything.
You also run into some of the weirdest NPCs ever. Like this old lady with a bunch of arms that just wants to play with your fingers. The whole finger obsession with this game is kind of confusing. You need fingers to do so many things
Then there are these two huge fingers that seem to be treated as gods or something. There is so much to this game and the lore in it is stuff I have never even thought I would ever experience. I think that is one of the major draws to this game is just how different it is from any of the other games I have ever played.
This game does not hold your hand at all. Even with questing. It reminds me a lot of early World of Warcraft where you had to actually read the quests and search out the places on the maps, instead of just following way points. This game takes it to another level than that though and doesn't even have a quest log for you. You need to try and remember what NPCs have asked you to do and where to go.
My brother told me that he uses a notepad to track what he is supposed to do and who to talk to. I haven't gotten to that level yet, but I have completed a couple different quests. It is so different than just following way points. It helps immerse you into the game in such a cool way, but it can get a bit overwhelming trying to remember that stuff.
Overall, this game is really cool and I am glad that I got it and put in the time to try and figure out how it works. I am just scratching the surface and have so much more to do in it. I have no idea if I will ever finish the game, but I have been having a blast exploring and getting killed by everything.
I had seen this game before, when they released a first gameplay but only that. I hadn't gone into detail about it, I don't think I will either because I can't play it, but it seems interesting to me an open world Souls type game because while it is true that Dark Souls give you freedom they are not open worlds in the sense of the genre itself. The theme of the fingers you mentioned reminds you of the souls in Souls saga, which function as currency. Good post, greetings
This game uses runes as the currency for buying stuff and leveling up your character.
I've been taking my time with this one to soak in some of the lore, there's honestly so much to do.
You're spot on about the handholding (or lack of), the game lets you approach it in a much more flexible fashion. I can go off and explore elsewhere and level at my own pace.
I also lokw the cooperate experience in most souls games but going solo for my first run in Elden Ring!
Ya, it would be cool to do some co-op at some point, but I have just been going solo this whole game. I heard that it was pretty complicated to get others into your game.
Yeah other souls game were a little fiddly for me ib terms of summons. I've not got into the whole invasion side of things yet either.
Even though I haven't played a Souls game before like you, the raving reviews that I've been reading and the gameplay VODs I've been watching have been really pushing me to get the game. Seems like it really has lots to do.
I think you will really enjoy it. It is a lot different than other games, but it has some amazing reviews.
Looking at all those screenshots. Shit thats crazy. I'm definitely not ready to fight those guys. I'm still stuck at Mergit :(( but the game is so good and the exploration part is something I love
You are in for a real treat. Margit is just the beginning of how awesome the next few fights are.
:((((
Master Hand would have liked to participate in this game.
No clue what that is. Looks like Smash Bros
Yes, it's Smash Bros. Master Hand is the final boss of Smash and it's a hand. Watching videos about Elden, I noticed a lot of things were about fingers, even at the beginning of the game we get a finger to play multiplayer or something. So well, I feel like that hand from Smash would have liked to make a debut in this game. 🤓
I hated Smash Bros so much.
Why? 😞
That moment, and then when it points to the sky and throws that blast of fire, along with the soundtrack starting to play, God, it's amazing. I almost didn't mind him killing me about 6 times before I could beat him, haha.
Ya, it was such an epic moment. I am really looking forward to more of these fights.
Lol I got me curly this part lmao.
Nothing better than a video game souls style and has an extremely open world, I do not know if my eyes are seeing well, but I think it's free on Steam, best of all is that in its specifications makes it can run on my computer, although I must buy a more powerful video card, this game looks to be very good and interesting, a different touch to what we were used to the Souls saga.
I got the two-fingered jokes, super weird.
Basically everyone is talking about this game right now but I fear that I am not git gud enough for it and it would be a waste of money.
the screenshots gave me a strong reminiscence of the Dark Souls series
