Summary

After finding a crazy old man sealed in a chest, Leaf is granted a gauntlet with powers that will allow him to recover the old man's orb and prevent the coming of an ancient evil. There are a lot of questions if he is really the legendary hero he claims to be, as every time you open a chest it appears as though he has just been sealing away random things he didn't need anymore, from old clothes to ex-girlfriends...

Okay, this story is hilarious and silly. It's not something I am going to get in-depth on,

Gameplay is very reminiscent of games like Megaman, only rather than changing weapons you change characters. Each character you recruit to your cause plays differently and can be freely switched in the middle of a map. HP and Energy remain consistent, so switching characters doesn't heal or recharge you, just changes your toolkit.

Really colorful and charming

So many different areas, all of which have their own interesting designs. There are stretches where stages all have similar themes and gimmicks to them, but it never hangs around long enough to feel like it's getting stale. Not to mention references to other things, such as the Rake Chevelier getting a good chuckle out of me, you're not going to be hurting for fun things to look at.

A Lot of Options

As mentioned, every character handles differently. Attacks range from short-range melee, ranged guns, and a crab that can launch its claw to grapple things, as well as 'Mystic weapons' that act as secondary attacks that will be the same regardless of who is using them. These are what drain your magic meter. Characters even have different attacks when performing their double jumps that add variety.

The only real issue here is swapping between characters can feel like it takes some time to do. The order is determined they are 'lined up' in, so you have to hit the right buttons multiple times depending on who you currently control. This is, however, a pretty minor nitpick.

Just challenging enough

You are not going to be struggling much in this game, but it crosses my line of at least making me feel like I need to be here to complete the game. Pay attention and it's pretty easy to find the secret, and some of them are pretty clever in how they are hidden. I do dislike one character who has a sort of auto-tracking bee that can home in on nearby enemies, and basically, this means half the foes can be killed without any effort as you fire from behind any kind of cover.

Still, though, the enemies and stages are varied enough that it's not going to be able to save you all the time.

Overall

It's a game that does very little worth criticizing, and it does a lot right. I had several good laughs at the story and characters, gameplay is consistently good, and that about sums it up. It's not a game that is going to blow you away at all, but it's a good light-hearted, and charming romp if you feel like something a little light and simple. It's really what yo
