With this thorough post some FUD has been started, and HIVE community support has moved into the next level - that of extreme criticism. Some of you will have heard of @psyberx by now.
First off, I should state - that this type of 'deep dive' extreme criticism is extremely valuable for any project that is not an outright scam, and it is also a huge benefit for the hive community. We have been scammed before, and we hate it!
I hope @psyberx project can take it in stride.
Let's dig into some of the criticisms here, and see if we have a smoking gun or just a 'caveat emptor' type situation. By the way, caveat emptor should be the default when you are using the series of tubes that make up the internet and its related technologies.
Let's start slow and work towards the most concerning aspects.
Critique #1 - Biggest Blockchain game Bullshit
Okay - so do we think this could be the biggest game in history? I'm not so sure that is the point that matters. It is some sort of marketing hype technique surely, but is it a red flag for scam? Again, I am not so sure that this is more than an exaggeration for attention grabbing purposes. Let's move on to deeper stuff.
Critique #2 - Use of other people's assets
This might seem concerning on the face. We need more information. But the other side of the story could easily be - People sell their assets in Unity!
Do we care if the game is chock full of Sci-Fi2020 asset pack assets? Or do we care that the game is linked into Hive?
Personally, I prefer that they buy as much as they can to avoid years long development hand-rendering assets for the game.
we need to know more.I would like @psyberx team to talk about how assets in Unity work, how frequently they make assets vs buy assets, and how the legals around assets and asset-buying works for video games. I am no expert in this field -
Critique #3 - Who are these creators anyway?
Who you are and what your reputation is - this is extremely important for us here on HIVE. Ironically, in a trustless crypto world, trust becomes even more important.
Doxxing your identity or that of your team isn't always necessary, (although that's what I have done), its also about 'being around town' for enough time that we can get a handle on what you are about.
Who is Royal Reptile Studios? What have they done in the past? I hope @psyberx will take some time to dive into this, even create a HIVE account for their company to show off their portfolio work.
The biggest red flag is a user coming out of anonymous nowhere and pimping the 'biggest project of all time' - we don't know you bro. So show us. Some projects might have a privacy clause, I have worked for other projects long enough to know that not everything I have done can go into my portfolio. But give us what you can, talk about your google play apps on a different blog and build up your portfolio.
There are type 1 and type 2 errors now - for many years, in the crypto bear market, there was not a lot of people organically discovering HIVE.
This has changed, and we are starting to see more people becoming interested in HIVE as a platform to launch what they are working on.
Note to HIVE users:
This is what we want!
We don't want or need a million users to come in and try to copy what we are already doing here, to be more of us, like us. That type of thinking does not result in 'another Splinterlands'. HIVE is a platform where 'skin in the game' stakers can DO THEIR THINGS, and we want more of these. In this market climate we are going to start seeing more of this, its inevitable.
Critque #4 - Doesn't respond to criticism appropriately
For me, this is a serious issue. Learn to take criticism, learn to accept that there are trolls, and learn to always respond (or not respond) with dignity.
As mentioned in the intro - this is a service that the 'hive community' is providing, and any real project will want to be strong as steel before hitting the mainstream.
So continue to respond to all criticisms appropriately, develop a strategy that is pro-critique, and I think it will go better for you, your game and your future endeavors.
What am I missing?
I hope this post can become a catalyst for continued discussion, both for this game developer and the community around HIVE in general.
Give me all you got down below in the comments!
To be honest. We are doing a ton of work on our 3D MMO on Unity over the last 9 months and have done a ton of research on connecting Unity to blockchains.
This looks like nothing more than every other "NFT" "ETH" game or EVM game that just loads up a Unity Metamask connection and says
We are the next NFT game!!
The reason they are all launching on ETH and the many EVM clones is because of 1 or 2 Unity Plugins.
I don't see them being a stake holder or "printing" their NFT's on Hive unless they have done a bunch of work on code to interact with Hive. If so they should open-source that code to support the overall chain and they would gain a bunch of support from the community.
With all the news Splinterlands is creating about Hive I get around 10 - 15 DM's a week talking about launching on Hive.
I will wait this one out.
This is a huge point - HOW will they be interacting with blockchain? It is no longer enough to add a metamask login and say 'BLOCKCHAIN GAME'.
And this is a huge suggestion to @psyberx team:
I'll give this an @ecosaint boost!

@ecoinstant, you've been given LUV from @simplegame.
Check the LUV in your H-E wallet. (2/4)
I would expect that the unity plugin necessary to utilize HIVE and NFTs would be open sourced. But its not a large undertaking to develop that piece of it.
I agree but it has not been done at this point and is not on the Roadmap.
I would like to see commitment to our blockchain before we run around yelling this is the best blockchain game ever.
Great dissection of the criticism. I think this nailed it:
This is true of any space. I come from podcasting and social media in the traditional space. So when I talk about podcasting and social media I have 16 years of receipts. The ability for anyone to see those receipts makes what I say credible.
The "we don't know you bro" is really at the heart of it all. Receipts = trust...or at least the beginning of trust.
I saw the trailer. It looks impressive. I'd like for it to be a reality. I truly hope the PsyberX team sees your post and takes it in the way it was meant to be received.
Are Star Atlas and PsyberX (however you spell it) the same thing - a rebrand?
I've seen Star Atlas's website, it is VERY impressive, but I wasn't about to invest into it without knowing who the people are, on just a promise.
You do have to ask these questions and steer well clear if alarm bells ring.
Rudeness in Discord combined with Anonymity aren't encouraging.
no star atlas is a completely unrelated game used for comparison in the original critique. The critiquer was likely using it as a counter example of 'biggest game in blockchain history', which as mentioned in this post was the weakest of his 4 criticisms, since people say all kinds of shit while marketing.
Star Atlas also has its own cadre of 'this will never come out' thinkers.
I haven't follewed the discussion but you broke it down nicely. Good to see that this kind of conversation is happening on HIVE, it is an exciting place to be right now for gamers.
so what is this 1UP? Are you aware a token called 1UP exists and that it was distributed on the now defunct site called Uptrennd? The site went away but the token still exists. In many circles it's considered a scam due to the way Jeff dealt with it.
I have no problem with them using work they purchased. A mention of that in the trailer post would of been nice. From my understading what they did is the norm and is done by many.
I also have no issue with their use of hyberbole in lines such as " 'biggest project of all time'. Many businesses use hyperbole. Heck I think there's at least three Pizza shops in my local area that claim they got the best slice of Pizza in town. I just see such things as promotional hype. I'm not heavily invested but I did get about 500,000 LVL and if price dictates, I'll be purchasing some more (NFA). Will things pan out (maybe) but I'm an adult who makes adult decisions and I won't be investing what I'm not willing to lose which is good practice for any investment made.
#3
Nobody knew who @yabapmatt was until Splinterlands. Sure, keychain, but he'd never done a game on Hive before. Now what? I invested really early (like the first few weeks) into Splinterlands and kept the faith. I saw how great the game could be and it'll only get better. My gut spoke loudly. It is saying the same things about Psyber-X.
great post, and this will be the test for the team over the next weeks/months. If they can outline their vision better and back it up with updates and be more transparent this is a go. Otherwise a no
Great post, Point 1 yes Justin is excited about this game and as others have stated and I agree this sounds like the game of our dreams, add to that we stake holders get to vote on how the game is developed and I am excited that he is excited about this game and with the right funding, companies in line to get this to where it needs to be can be done just not fast and easy.
Point 2 unity assets are owned by the purchaser to be used in games that is exactly what they are made and sold for and Justin was open about this before the criticism came rolling in.
Point 3 I am on the fence here, at one point I got in at a really good price something I could never have done if this was a big studio game or someone that has had something like this accomplished. I am anticipating his HIVE customers game release of a card type game. His open book AMA also points out several past clients he welcomes references to be checked.
My summary - yes we are investing in a very risky project yet we are first round investors and will be very rich PsyberX Millionaires or bag holders in the end.
Well interesting post! And I am glad you are asking these questions this could be an awesome project and we hope it is! However hive does seem to be reputation based and this along with trust need to be earned! !PIZZA

@ecoinstant @psyberx @tuck-fheman did you ever get this cleared up and a clear answer.. this game still seems like a joke to me because of this. cant wait for some real gameplay.. cos that first stuff was fake..
They released some gameplay footage for the founders, I think it will be public soon but not sure. I know they changed to unreal engine 5 since the original videos.
