So, it finally happened. The First Edition (I'll refer to it as 1E) has finally discontinued in dCity. If things go as planned, the Third Edition (3E) should roll out this month.
What does this mean?
For starters, you can no longer purchase 1E cards via the 4 HIVE or 800 SIMs options. There may be special events in the future where players could win an out-of-print card, but it will be rare. The volume coming from the said events will also be insignificant. The only way to get those cards now is from other players.
And for the players?
It means a new meta is on the horizon. Sometimes, a change of pace is a good thing, or the game becomes stale. There are many new features and changes that will affect how players approach dCity. Bottom line is, the same tricks may not work as well into 3E. Better plan ahead before the new random events wreck your city.
Like many players, I have stocked up on some SIM on the cheap side for the upcoming expansion. I am literally a SIM millionaire. Then again, so are many others.
Chances are, I will use a portion of those SIMs to start my 3E journey. At 800 SIMs a card, there's plenty to go around. There are many new cards to acquire and new cards to build.
Yes, I wrote to build. One of the biggest features of the upcoming edition is combining buildings. You can read more about it on @dcitygame's posts. At some point in the near future, the players will also have access to an updated info page.
And here's the thing: reading is more important than ever with all the complexities added to the game.
Often, people visit dCity's Discord server with many questions. The community is friendly to everyone and is willing to help out those seeking tips. There also exist personal initiatives where more established players jumpstart new ones.
The most important thing to remember, though, is that dCity is a game. I understand that there is money involved, but that's another huge topic altogether.
