Might And Magic III | Arachnoid Cavern

Arachnoid Cavern.jpg

Now that I had the swimming skill for all my characters it was time to head down to A4. While I had killed some of the spiders from across the river. There were many more waiting to attack me once I made the swim over to the rest of the zone.

These spiders at least provided a decent chunk of experience. Afterward, I headed over to the trainer in Baywatch and had at least a level if not two for all my characters waiting to train.

I also ended up looting a couple of upgrades. My tanks got some new weapons and even a piece of plate armor. My casts on the other hand have not been so lucky. I’ve been passing them any rings or amulets I've found to try and boost up their AC at least a little bit. It’s been enough to at least keep them living through a couple of hits from what I've been facing.

gold key.jpg

In one of the sections of the zone, I found a gold key card that was encased in glass. I tried to smash through the glass case with my highest strength character. I had no luck this time around. I would later come back with a higher-level strength bonus from gear and have no trouble acquiring the key then.

The key itself I noticed was a requirement to get into a giant pyramid I have passed by a couple of times now. Not sure what awaits me inside such a thing. For some reason, I just get the feeling I should focus on other things in the game for now.

While exploring A4 I ended up crossing over the zone line a couple of times into B4. That is when I noticed there was a dungeon not that far off in the distance. I for one could not turn down such a thing. It just lured me right into it.

The dungeon ended up being quite a massive one called Arachnoid Cavern. It was filled with mostly spiders and beetles Along with some rather deadly wurms that I'd have the displeasure of discovering deep into my exploration of the place.

This dungeon ended up being quite needed for me to progress forward. I ended up finding the Yellow Fortress key and Blue Unholy key while I was exploring around.

This dungeon was mostly set up with a circle center that went fully around. There were then four main areas to explore in each of the corners of the zone. Along with a few chambers on the inside of the circle.

Along the way, I would end up encountering gongs. Anytime I'd hit one of them they would end up summing more creatures to fight. While I was looking to acquire more experience. I also just did not feel like making this place any harder on myself. So, I just ended up skipping over them.

cure posion.jpg

Beyond finding the keys I would need to go into harder dungeons. I ended up finding a much-needed spell for quite some time now. Up to this point, I've only been able to suppress things like poison. Now my cleric had a cure she could cast after the group searched through some bones on the ground. This was quite needed for this dungeon as well.

Having this kind of spell alone should help save many members of my group from getting killed over the long term. As I would often just forget they were poisoned or what have you. It then would be a slow and painful death that you could see by the expression change on their face telling you something was wrong.

This dungeon seemed to have been made to empower my cleric. In another pile of bones, I found the spell Fiery Flail. Just for 25 mana my cleric could cast a 100-fire damage spell. While it also had a gem cost of 5 by this point I had so many gems the cost was more than worth it.

This would also make my cleric my go-to to try and snipe anything that was moving around in the distance down before it made it into melee range. I would even often have quite a few mana med breaks just for my cleric. It seemed I was using damage spells more on her than I was using her for healing.

There is one drawback to Fiery Flail. It won’t scale with levels. After a while I'd end up using ranged bow damage from my group over using my cleric to try and snipe things down. Even my source after a while had spells that scaled with the level that would surpass this spell. It was however at the time quite an overpowering spell to have.

finding crystals.jpg

There were also a bunch of crystals everywhere in this zone. They each gave a hint at a password needed to fight some powerful wurms as the final room of this dungeon.

Then it was time. I did what was needed to open the door and ended up having a wurm chase after me out of it. At the time I did not know how lucky I was only getting aggression on just one of them.

I quickly got some heavy damage down on the wurm with my cleric casting Fiery Flail. The first one ended up getting killed before reaching me. The ones to follow afterward as I slowly lured more and more out of the final room at best made it into melee ranged before getting killed with only landing a single blow if that on my group.

There also ended up being some crystals in this zone that gave me some stat increases. Since I was mostly just having my robber touch everything due to these thriving skills. He ended up gaining a few random stats that might not have been best for it.

This has always been the issue in Might and Magic. Unless you want to save and reload when you come across certain objects. You just never know what will end up occurring. It could be death or perhaps your robber ends up gaining a bunch of intelligence that he does not need.

Once I had Arachnoid Cavern cleared. I left B4 and returned to A4 to continue clearing out that area. I ended up killing quite a few more spiders and finding even more buried treasures.

Final Thoughts

more levels.jpg

It was then time to head back into town. I had a couple more levels to train for. Lots of loot to sell after working out what was an upgrade and what was junk. There were also some new spells for my casters to learn as well.

I ended up making a decent chunk of gold out of the deal. I even put some of it in the bank for a rainy day. The rest I'd end up spending on further skills, spells, and some gear upgrades as well. At least for the time being I was no longer struggling with having enough gold. It did help that my characters were getting killed less often.
