I was starting to wonder when I'd end up having issues with pirates. I was not expecting to also be dealing with a blackhole at the same time. My base was also needing quite a few things to build.
Bases in No Man’s Sky have always been a bit of a weak spot for me. Even more so now since it’s been so many years. I noticed there were a couple of milestones regarding bases remaining to work on.
One of the nice things about the expedition milestones is they have been rewarding me with quite a few salvage data. There was one milestone that had me go out and collect a few myself. Otherwise, it’s mostly been just the rewards I've been getting.
Salvage data is needed to buy blueprints for your base. I ended up going back to the Anomaly and picking up a few different blueprints like mineral extractor, supply depot, and anything else that looked like I might need at some point.
I noticed I was short on a few resources so I ended up exploring around a bit. That is when I ran into my first real pirates. My space combat abilities in a ship that I've not upgraded to many things on other than anything I've acquired from milestones. Did not hold up that well against an attack by a few pirates.
While I managed to finish most of them off. I had used up all the resources that are required for recharging your shield. I also did not have any shield recharges already made. In the end, I lost the fight. Having my first major death and loss of supplies.
I then ran into another issue. I wanted to work on a milestone that required you to go to different color star systems. The issue was I was lacking the special warp drives required for doing so. It had fully skipped my mind I needed such things.
While I would naturally be getting some of those drives and resources to craft them expedition milestones. That would have been too easy on me to have noticed that. I’d start working on getting them the hard way.
That would end up being a bit more of a long-term thing I'd start working on. As yet again I had more pressing matters shooting at me. I had entered into yet another system controlled by pirates.
Since I needed to go through a blackhole anyways for one of the milestones. Along with needing a way to escape yet another nasty encounter. I took the risk of going through the black hole not knowing where it would end up taking me. That unknown part I felt was not so bad since I could always just station teleport back to a system to get myself back on track if I end up going somewhere far away.
To my shock, the blackhole ended up taking me over 1.4 million lightyears away. I ended up pulling up the map and realizing I'd need to get back to a station around where I left from to keep my progress going toward the next world I needed for the expedition.
I ended up summing the Anomaly and using the teleporter there to head back to my base. From there it was time to get some construction projects done. Such as a projector that could display anything that I've scanned.
There was also some other stuff like expanding out my base by placing down a table and some other objects. I even attempted to set up an auto miner to discover there was nothing to mine. Needless to say, I need to spend some time relearning the base system in this game.
I’d show you more of the inside of my base but it’s just a mess. I had to craft and place down a bunch of nonsense. I just attempted to create a path I could get through it. I also had my front door locked up with no way to open it anymore. So, I added another section with a ramp and a place to park my ship to get in and out of my base. Since the front door was now broken for some reason I could not work out.
I was then off getting back on track before I ran into pirates and needed to take a blackhole. Once in a while, I'd stop to take in the sights. Exploration in this game is still something I can just go out and spend hours doing not realizing how much time has passed.
Like all good things after a while, I made it to the second rendezvous planet. This ended up finishing off phase two for me. Along with getting some needed multi-tool slots. That was one thing I had not been on the lookout for in trying to upgrade to a better one along the way.
There was one milestone I ended up struggling with completing more than I was expecting. It was called the Grand Tour. I just needed to get screenshots of three different plants with different atmospheres. The first one I already had. The second one I quickly found after seeing what planets I already had scanned. The last one was airless and it took forever to run into a moon with no air on it.
This is when I had a little regret for not at least doing a quick scan of every system I had wrapped into. Something I would not be forgetting to do moving forward. It would have been so easy to have just manually checked every system I've been on and looked for a planet or moon that matched the three different planets I needed for the milestone.
At least along the way, I ended up finding some cool places. I found what I can only call a bubble world. While it was not the kind of planet I needed. It was amazing. I wish I had some reason to have spent hours here. I however just scanned some of the local life before going on my way.
I then ran into some more pirates trying to go a system over. This time they were quite busy dealing with other things. I managed to dock up. From there after picking up a suit upgrade and the teleport to the station. I undocked and managed to fly far enough way I could get warp engines going again to get away from that trouble.
One of the strange milestones I needed to do was locate an underwater wreck. I ended up building an exocraft in what I thought was the ocean on a planet. It ended up just being a massive lake. Thankfully all I needed was just to use the scan onboard to locate the wreck and I was able to fly out closer to it on my ship before a bit of swimming was involved.
It looks like I was not the only one having issues with pirates. This ended up being quite a massive freighter. It was quite picked clean as well. At least I got another milestone out of the way. I had no idea these were even a thing you could end up finding on planets. So it was quite a cool thing to find.
Final Thoughts
This felt like a rather productive adventure. While I was not so much finishing off phase after phase for the expedition. I was getting quite a few random milestones for it out of the way. This was also starting to leave ones I had no idea how to do or ones that would require a bit of effort to finish.

Dealing with pirates and a black hole in one go? Definitely sounds cool. Those bubble worlds are stunning, keep exploring and pushing forward.
Always an adventure in No Man's Sky.
