It was time for phase two Tame the Staroid. I have no idea what a Staroid is but I'm hoping to find out. It was time to go into the next region called Chalk Peak and see what kind of trouble I could get myself into.
Right away I got to collect a bunch of season journeys and other event things going on. This boosted me up to 82 ciphers without having to shoot a single bullet. I also had a load of energy to spend.
I went to town getting a lot of tech tree memetics. Many of these I would not be able to craft right away as I'd need some higher crafting ingredients. I’d at least have them unlocked like the medium garage, upgraded base energy systems, and a more advanced crafting station.
I then slowly started making my way to the next main quest waypoint. I was not in any rush to get there. So anything I found along the way I'd stop and enjoy.
This included finding some spots for aluminum ore which I needed for my next phase of gear and base upgrades. This stuff was not as common as I was hoping. While I was looking for a place to move my base into I just never found a good enough spot then where it’s at.
I also ended up jumping into some random wave event. My eye was drawn by a massive gun that was resting on the ground. At first, I thought the insane number of bullets the gun came with would have been enough.
It would not take long before finding out that the progress counter in the upper left corner was just for the current wave I was not. It was not for the total event.
At one point I was about to run out of ammo. I was kind of glad I was not praying and spraying with the gun they gave me. I was manually firing bursting from it by tapping the mouse button slowly.
In the end, there was a nice little loot crate. It had a mini feaster deviant and 1k energy in it. Along with some upgrading parts I was looking for from the new region I was in.
From there I kept following the road to the west till I found myself in the town of Holt. I also got killed there. I would also get killed a few more times over entering into the new region.
This place was starting to be quite rough. I went back to get another mining run in before getting myself killed yet again. At least by that point, I had enough to craft a gun upgrade and some armor as well.
That would end up being enough to see me into the next safe town called Tall Grass where the main storyline was waiting. Once there I ended up speaking with Mary about some things before further checking out the town.
Before going there, I did end up talking with some other people in the town first. There seem to always be a few quests for the area. I then made it my next goal to hit up a few different towns and start activating certain areas across the region.
After getting a few more items to upgrade with and making another trip to my base. I found myself tracking down the quest I was given to my Mary. It turns out the whole thing was one massive trap and she was a traitor.
She also tried to have me eliminate. Thankfully at this point, I was a lot harder to kill than when it started in this region. Despite how nasty and massive what was sent after me. I took it down.
Seeing a creature named Butcher instantly gave me some ARPG flashbacks to all the times I had to kill something by that or a similar name. I was somewhat disappointed by how easy it was to kill. The only thing getting butchered was it.
I would then find myself in a couple of dungeons. Fighting off some rather large creatures. A lot of them were quite easy fights. I wish I could have farmed them for an easy 1k energy. As most of these lesser fights were no-nonsense just burst down whatever is trying to kill you.
I also kept tossing in any further energy I had into either upgrading my gear with calibrations or further unlocking things for my base. For a while now I've needed some better electric generating options. It however fell quite short of what I was hoping would have been my next upgrades. I’d have to adventure a bit further to another region to get the resources I needed to make the upgrades I was after on that front.
Between clearing a couple more towns. I then found myself in another wave event with powerful fun. Sometimes when I'd notice an area of the map had a lot of fog and a giant gun sitting near an event trigger point I'd skip over it. Other times I could not wait to find one of these kinds of events again.
I had also by now made more than enough upgrades to my gear I was in farm mode for the Chalk Peak region. So, I spent a decent chunk of time just ripping things up. I even had to refill the gas take on my motorcycle a couple of times.
I also noticed this region was not as strange as the ones I've been in the past. Outside of a couple of examples. It was not as wild as some of the places I've explored. There did end up being this house of fun that I had to head towards odd sounds to find the person I needed to hunt down. This place was quite a wacky maze.
I kind of wish the fun did not end so fast in this region. Before I knew it I was facing down the monolith boss. It was some kind of wild hound that was much smaller than I was expecting it to be.
I also got killed a good dozen or so times trying to fight it. As it turns out I was a little under-leveled and geared for going at this thing solo. I did head back out at one point to do a little further graining to pick up an extra level and upgrade some final gear calibration levels.
Final Thoughts
All those final upgrades were enough to give me a win in yet another region. I was also rather glad to see I had access to another region. I was hoping I would not be stuck waiting for the next phase to unlock.
It is a bit of a shame when a region due to the season phase not being high enough. You end up getting killed after a bunch of voices start to whisper that you don’t belong. I ended up having that happen when I tried to go into Chalk Peak before the next phase started.
