There had been some side missions I've been wanting to get off my list for a while now. I also ended up running into quite a powerful creature and hoping I'd get something amazing for killing it I gave it a try.
There was one side mission I had forever. I just needed to give an NPC a special kind of potion. The issue is I've yet to loot one. Turns out I got some as a reward for working on a side mission. That mission was however not unlocked until I was on the bigger map. That seems quite odd to have to wait that long before I could finish off an otherwise simple mission. The rewards were also what I'd expect from an early-game mission.
Early on I had also come across these beats on the map around my base. I however could never attack them. That was until I got a side mission to take them out. I was even given hints about their weaknesses which I ignored.

First up was Lord Mire Dwelling that l lived in the swamp. Once I took out the adds he had spawned in with. It was like he could do very little to my units. I did end up losing some melee which when you're fighting something that looks like a dragon is not unexpected.
Once it was defeated, I realized something amazing. It had dropped an accessory. On that accessory, it stated it had some stat increases if worn with other ones. Up till this point every accessory I've found all used the same slot in the inventory. Now I had an opportunity to fill two slots that had been empty this entire time.

Needless to say, I could not wait to face the next boss. So, I went right for it. This one ended up being the Master Of Scorched Heat. The fight did end up going on for a bit longer than I would have liked with some losses mounting up.
I do recall when going over the mission when I got it that there were hints of staying cool during this fight. There just so happens to be some units that can freeze and deal cold damage. They however take up a few tiles and I could not be bothered to bring them along.
Thankfully they were not needed. After a while, I defeated this boss as well. Finally filling my second module slot and getting an extra 11 points of skill and some immunity to certain types of effects among other benefits.

The final boss I needed to defeat for the side mission was a Giant Salamander. This item filled up my last remaining module slot. It was also the first helmet I had looted so far in the game. It ended up giving me a nice boost to intelligence which I felt was great since I hardly have any points into that and fail any stat checks for it quite often.
After that, I went around the local area near the base and ended up finishing off some side quests I just needed to do the turn-in for. While I got some armor, they were not upgrades for the suit I was wearing. At least I got some small amounts of supplies like energy and food.

Once all of that was done, I was in the mood to test out my new equipment. I also decided to check out a part of the UI I had been ignoring. It turns out I can not only build roads but also teleporters and turrets around my buildings on the main map.
I now feel a bit silly for not having turrets up guarding the mines and power plants I had fought to capture on the main map. At the time I was going around doing that however, I also did not have them unlocked yet.
No more was I going to get spammed with notices that beasts were attacking my resources node and I had to go re-clear them yet again. I just had to invest a small amount of building supplies and some of my time. Along with clearing them out of any hostile creatures for one last time.
While I was doing that, I also went on quite a massive exploration expedition I wanted to finish exploring the entire map. I still had a few spots up to the north and west that I had not fully checked out yet.

That is when I discovered an insane Moutain Lord boss. The thing wiped out all of my army excluding myself. I had enough stats in key areas it could hardly do any damage to me for most of the fight. At some point, it seemed to have ramped up its damage output.
As you can tell this fight ended up going over 70 turns. I was also quite down to the wire. I was not sure who was going to get the final killing blow. I was kind of shocked when one of my more powerful attacks was off cooldown and it dealt the killing blow.
I was expecting to get a bunch of powerful loot from killing this thing. I was shocked I got nothing but a small amount of experience. I can only guess there is some kind of mission that has you kill it.
I for one did not have the mission. I was a bit disappointed as well. I then came across while exploring one other boss. That one however would not allow me to even attack it. Despite the fact I'm quite certain one of my side quests is for a sea boss.
Final Thoughts

I for one am glad I was able to clear out quite a few of these side missions mentioned above and a few smaller ones as well. Along with quite some powerful bosses. Even better I now have a massive teleportation network setup making it quite easy to get around to different locations. No more am I going to need to spend a week getting to the edge of the map just to find out my base is going to be attacked soon.
