Sometimes I come across games that I have never heard or read about, it is something quite common when you are always looking for "new" games to discover and, in those searches you can find real hidden gems of video games. And while the game I'm going to tell you about today is not spectacular, it turns out to be a more than entertaining platformer. This game, although I had never heard or read about it, the movie on which it is based much less, "Adventures in Dinosaur City" is a 1991 movie of which I hope that besides me, someone else reading this post doesn't know it either. The film centers on three friends who found themselves watching a TV show called "Dino Saurs," a dinosaur show with human, i.e. anthropomorphic, features. UOne of the friends suggests watching the show on a better TV, so they go to their parents' lab and find an experimental screen, which as you can guess nothing good can come out of it and that really is a portal that sends them to another dimension, a dimension plagued by dinosaurs, more specifically, they are transported to the favorite show of the protagonists of this story. This movie had a video game based on that plot but with its differences, in a quite fun platform game.
The game takes the central theme of the film's plot, a world of anthropomorphic dinosaurs, but this time there are two human protagonists and playable characters: Timmy and Jamie, who have been transported to this fantastic world and must find a way to return to their dimension. In this new universe they will have the help of Rex, a Tyrannosaurus, and Tops, a Protoceratops (I had to investigate how this last dinosaur was "really" because I had no idea), since the device that served as a portal to be sent back to their world has been stolen one of its most important pieces. This robbery was done by Mr. Big, leader of the Rockeys gang, which are formed by neanderthals and serve as the main villains of this game and we must defeat them to return to our home. A typical story like many platform games, but with a different origin as it is based on a movie which, as I said before, I have never seen, but it might be interesting to watch on a Sunday when it is always boring.
Visually it is a very nice and colorful game, the designs of the main characters and most of the dinosaurs have a very childish style that fits quite well, as they are really good designs, although their sprites are not very large, they still have enough elements and details so that they can be seen well on the screen. The amount of enemy designs is quite varied, more than I expected and this was something that surprised me, since I really did not expect something so well done in this game, but at least in terms of character design is pretty good. The scenarios although I do not consider it to be its best aspect, they look good and also have a great variety of places to go, there is a good variety of scenarios and each of them has good decorative elements in general terms, although personally, in terms of graphics, the character design stands out much more. The music is quite good and is composed according to the situation and the genre of video games in which we find ourselves, so we can hear that kind of music characteristic of an adventure and action game, also music that alludes to exploration, with tropical rhythms and in itself, it is quite lively music.
In terms of gameplay is like any other platform game, jumping and running will be our main actions and control over our character is extremely simple and easy to learn. We will have to advance by overcoming obstacles in the level we are in, jumping between the various platforms, defeating enemies and reaching the end of the level to defeat the final boss. We will have two characters to choose from: Timmy and Jamie, each of which will have its own dinosaur that we will use as a mount. Timmy will have the help of Rex, which uses melee attacks, while Jamie will be accompanied by Tops and he will have ranged attacks. Just as Mario does with Yoshi, in this game we will also be able to dismount our dinosaur and use them as platforms and some sections of the same level we will have to overcome them dismounted from the dinosaur. It is not a difficult game, since its difficulty curve is not very high, but it is a game that offers a quite entertaining and fun gameplay challenge.
A veces me encuentro juegos de los que nunca he escuchado o leído, es algo bastante común cuando siempre estás en la búsqueda de “nuevos” juegos por descubrir y, en esas búsquedas puedes encontrar verdaderas joyas ocultas de los videojuegos. Y si bien el juego del que les hablaré hoy no es espectacular, resulta ser un juego de plataformas más que entretenido. Este juego, si bien nunca había oído o leído sobre él, la película en la que está basada mucho menos y es que, “Adventures in Dinosaur City” es una película de 1991 de la cual espero que además de mí, alguno otro que lea este post tampoco la conozca. La película se centra en tres amigos que se encontraban viendo un programa de TV llamado “Dino Saurs”, un show de dinosaurios con rasgos humanos, es decir, antropomórficos. Uno de los amigos sugiere ver el programa en una mejor TV, por lo que van al laboratorio de sus padres y encuentran una pantalla experimental, que como podrán suponer nada bueno podrá salir de eso y eso que realmente es un portal que los envían a otra dimensión, una dimensión plagada de dinosaurios, más específicamente, son transportados al show favoritos de los protagonistas de esta historia. Esta película tuvo un videojuego basado en ese argumento pero con sus diferencias, en un juego de plataformas bastante divertido.
El juego toma el tema central del argumento de la película, un mundo de dinosaurios antropomórficos, pero esta vez son dos protagonistas humanos y personajes jugables: Timmy y Jamie, los cuales han sido transportados a este fantástico mundo y deberán buscar la manera de volver a su dimensión. En este nuevo universo contaran con la ayuda de Rex, un Tiranosaurio, y Tops, un Protoceratops (tuve que investigar cómo era “realmente” este ultimo dinosaurio porque no tenía ni idea), ya que el aparato que le servía como portal para ser enviados nuevamente a su mundo le han robado uno de sus piezas más importantes. Este robo fue hecho por Mr. Big, líder de la banda Rockeys, los cuales están formados por neandertales y fungen como villanos principales de este juego y debemos vencerlos para regresar a nuestro hogar. Una historia típica como muchos juegos de plataformas, pero con un origen diferente al estar basado en una película de la cual, como he dicho anteriormente nunca he visto, pero puede que esté interesante de ver un domingo de esos donde siempre es aburrido.
Visualmente es un juego bastante agradable y muy colorido, los diseños de los protagonistas y el de la mayoría de los dinosaurios tienen un estilo muy infantil que le encaja bastante bien, ya que son diseños realmente bueno, que aunque sus sprites no son muy grandes, estos igualmente tienen los suficientes elementos y detalles para que puedan verse bien en la pantalla. La cantidad de diseños de enemigos es bastante variada, más de lo que me esperaba y esto fue algo que me sorprendió, ya que realmente yo no esperaba algo tan bien hecho en este juego, pero al menos en términos de diseño de personajes es bastante bueno. Los escenarios si bien no considero que sea su mejor aspecto, igualmente se ven bien y cuentan igualmente con gran variedad de sitios a donde ir, hay una buena variedad de escenarios y cada uno de ellos goza de buenos elementos decorativos en términos generales, aunque en lo personal, en lo que respecta al aspecto gráfico, el diseño de personajes destaca mucho más. La música es bastante buena y está compuesta acorde a la situación y al género de videojuegos en el que nos encontramos, por lo que podremos escuchar ese tipo de música característica de un juego de aventuras y acción, también música que alude a la exploración, con ritmos tropicales y en sí, es música bastante animada.
En términos de jugabilidad es como cualquier otro juego de plataformas, saltar y correr serán nuestras acciones principales y el control sobre nuestro personaje es sumamente sencillo y fácil de aprender. Tendremos que avanzar superando obstáculos del nivel en el que nos encontremos, saltando entre las diversas plataformas, derrotando enemigos y llegar al final del mismo para así derrotar al jefe final. Tendremos dos personajes a elegir: Timmy y Jamie, los cuales cada uno contará con su propio dinosaurio que usaremos como montura. Timmy contará con la ayuda de Rex, el cual utiliza ataques a cuerpo a cuerpo, mientras que Jamie estará acompañado de Tops y este tendrá ataques a distancia. Al igual como hace Mario con Yoshi, en este juego también podremos desmontar a nuestro dinosaurio y usarlos como plataformas y algunas secciones de un mismo nivel tendremos que superarlas desmontado del dinosaurio. No es un juego difícil, ya que su curva de dificultad no es muy elevada, pero es un juego que propone un reto jugable bastante entretenido y divertido.
Muchas veces solo es necesario esto para entretenerse, incluso para un juego actual jaja. No sé si para la época en la que salió buscaban simplemente hacer un clon de Yoshi Island, pero me gusta que esté basado en una película de un dinosaurio porque siento que le da sentido xd.
Si, a veces solo es necesario desconectar un poco, no pensar mucho y solo saltar. Si, yo no conocia esa pelicula, de hecho, encontré poca informacion de ella.

Yeah, there are a few final bosses in each final stage of the level, I'm not very difficult to be honest, but they are entertaining.
