Sometimes I get annoyed by Nintendo's attitude towards some developers who even make better games of some of their IPS than Nintendo itself. I hope they don't make the classic threat that this company makes.

Unfortunately, the laws protecting these games (books, movies, music, etc) and the owners of them are archaic beyond stupidity (thanks partially to stalwarts such as Universal Studios and Disney among others).
Basically, they have to protect their rights or risk losing them to the public domain, or a squatter (someone that swoops in and grabs dead/dormant rights).
