The myth of Reptile in Mortal Kombat 1

in Hive Gaming3 years ago (edited)

In the history of video games there have been outstanding titles of the fighting genre, some of them marked history due to their mechanics and gameplay, others for their graphic appearance and a very attractive explicit violence, an example of this was the first Mortal Kombat that appeared in the arcades in 1992, created by two great young men, Ed Boon and John Tobias.

At the beginning, this video game was highly criticized due to its violence, since it was the first to implement a special move to completely exterminate the life of our opponent, these were called Fatality, which could vary between completely burning the opponent, decapitating him, tearing off his head with the spine, among many others.

The success of this video game in the arcades was really overwhelming, leading to the development of ports for different platforms, among them the most famous were Super Nintendo and Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, but it also appeared in the DOS system, Commodore Amiga, among others, becoming a complete success for its high sales.

Due to its violence, in several systems it was censored in different aspects, such as blood or Fatality, however, in those years the rumor was created that in the Mega Drive/ Genesis version could be unlocked all the blood and big deadly moves, something that turned out to be true, this boosted a little more sales on this platform with respect to the competition, the Super Nintendo.

But the aforementioned was something that could be quickly verified through guides, there was another myth that very few knew about and it was something really complicated to know in the past if it was true or false, it was the appearance of a character that had combined movements of Sub-Zero and Scorpion, besides having the same ninja suit but in green color, it was the powerful Reptile.

Many remember this character since his appearance in Mortal Kombat II, however, many claimed that there was a way to fight against him in the first video game, most people did the impossible to get this character, however, many failed in the attempt, but eventually it was possible to find a way to fight with this warrior, something that many had the opportunity to experience.

To achieve this was somewhat complicated, but not impossible, you must play in arcade mode until you reach the stage "The Pit", once in it you have to observe the moon, in it will appear a shadow, it is at that moment when we must finish the fight without using the block button, get in the two rounds a perfect victory, ie without taking damage, and finally exterminate our character with a Fatality of the character, it should not be a "Stage Fatality".

In this way we will fight with the fearsome Reptile in the background of the stage, in addition to appreciate that it is a combination between the two ninjas of the game, with that was established that it was not a myth, but something completely real that could be done in the game, something that was marked in the memory of many players of yesteryear.

Reptile in Mortal Kombat 1 always felt like a very cool thing, not only with how stupidly obscure he was to actually get to the point that it could be passed as an urban myth BUT was indeed true (and contributed to the mythos of classic MK having both hidden characters and RUMORED hidden characters, like the "Ermacs" standing for Error Macros in the test menu spawning rumors about what would eventually become the Red Ninja himself), and the fact that here Reptile has both Scorpion and Sub-Zero moves, something that even with cheats is still exclusive to the AI as it actually swaps between both characters while using the same palette.
