Each console has a path in the history of video games, to know how it was made, what games were released for it or see what impact it had on the market are very interesting data, however, each one has some curiosities which went unnoticed by users, one of the consoles that very little is known about it with respect to this subject is the Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast was one of the most innovative consoles at the time, because it brought an arcade machine to your home with revolutionary graphics, but its life in the world of video games was very short, it lasted only 3 years in the market, considering that its official launch was in Japan in 1998 and it was discontinued in 2001. In the American continent it barely lasted 16 months, something that many regretted when buying this fabulous console.

The commercial failure of the Dreamcast was not caused by the console, in fact it was considered one of the best systems in the past and had very good sales when it was launched, but the economic situation of SEGA and its differences with respect to SEGA Japan and SEGA America, caused a huge loss of money, producing an unexpected end and finally the withdrawal of the company's console production.

In spite of the above mentioned, the Dreamcast is a console very loved by the gamer community, besides being considered one of the best of all times. If you are one of the people who are interested in this system, you will surely be interested in knowing some curiosities that you may not know.

The color of the Dreamcast logo
This logo has a quite peculiar and simple shape, a spiral that originates from the inner part (so it makes it understand when turning on the console), however, its color varies depending on the region in which it was launched, the first of them being orange, since in Japan it is considered one of the most attractive colors. In America it was changed to red for marketing purposes, as this color was more receptive to consumers in that sector.

In the European continent at the beginning the console was launched with the orange logo, however, something very unexpected happened, a videogame developer company called Tivola sued SEGA, since the Dreamcast logo was very similar to theirs, the solution was to change the orange color to blue, for this reason in this region the console has that small difference.

The first console with Modem
It is true that consoles like the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive or the Super Famicom had an online game download system, but interacting with other people around the world was something that only in the computer world could be done, SEGA was ahead of its time and decided to incorporate a Dial-Up modem that allowed internet connection.

Thanks to this, those who had this technology in their homes could enjoy online games, among them we can mention Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament 2001 or the well-known Phantasy Star Online. This was so revolutionary that other companies decided to incorporate natively in their consoles the possibility of connecting them to the Internet, until reaching what we know today.

Electronic Arts Video Games
There is a detail that few know about the Dreamcast games, if you review its entire catalog you will see that there is not a single video game developed by Electronics Arts, this has a simple explanation. SEGA wanted to rescue the development of sports video games, such as Virtua Tennis, among others, to have exclusivity in this genre of games.

But Electronics Arts wanted to have their sports games as an exclusive genre for the Dreamcast, it was the only condition to develop titles for this console, this idea was not to the liking of SEGA, rejecting the condition of EA, it is for this reason that we can not find any game developed by this company for the console.

These were some little known curiosities about the Dreamcast, if you know another one you want to include you can indicate it in the comments section.

how interesting all these curiosities. The one that called my attention the most was the change of color of the logo for the regions and I thought that being a logo they would never modify it.
The color thing is one of the strangest curiosities, but marketing, among other things, can change the image of a company slightly, in this case the Dreamcast.
Great topic for a post! The sega dreamcast was truly ahead of his time.
Thanks @richardalexis, it really was a very outstanding console that came to an abrupt end.
